question about valeo projectors

well ive had these projectors for quite a bit and was always wondering y my passenger side was dimmer than my driver side. ive wondered if its the projector itself or its the bulbs themselves. ive seen couple pplz with these and have the same issue but never found out was truly is the problem. any one got a solution or the issue with it? heres a decent pic of wat im talkin about:

i have the same problem with my e46 projectors. The driver side has a lot more intensity then the passenager side. If you got used bulbs i'm guessing one bulb might be slightly older then the other. The other solution some guy on hidplanet said was just to get two driver side projectors. I know it shouldn't matter, but for him it made a difference.

hrmm....i have no problem in gettin new projectors but the problem is that i have no experience nor even worked on these headlights so i dont know wat the installer did. i could send it bak but not sure. y did they make one projector different than the other? kinda odd....any other solutions? i can buy new bulbs but if that doesnt work there goes money down the drain.

uhmmm...i'm guessing they made the driver side brighter since the driver side is aimed lower then the passenager side for oems.

it's probably not that the passenger side is dimmer, it's probably just a perceived loss of light because you're not directly behind it. probably. my lights seem fine.

mikenam is an unknown quantity at this point
well could be a bunch of reasons. not all projectors all created equally. it could be your headlight housing. could be the bulb or something else. the only thing u can do is make sure everything is clean.

bringing up an old thread again. im gonna prob open up the passenger side headlight and take a look at the projector over the spring break. its gotta b something with the projector b.c when i look at em off the car in front of me it seems like the driver side projector is full of light but when i look in the passenger side it looks like its partially lit. ill try to get a pic of wat im talkin about when i get behind a car next time.

is there anything i should look at when i take the headlight apart or any cautions to take in hand? thx

also one thing i want to mention is something that i have not seen with other valeos beam. the driver side been is wat it should be when shot next to a wall but when i have the passenger side next to the wall it flares up....is that normal or is there something wrong? i know it is the beam but it seems outrageous....it would shine all over the car next to me cause it flares up alot even tho the beam is low. heres a decent pic i could get:

i have the same exact problem. But i'm too lazy it take my headlights apart again.

Maybe you should check to see if the reflector bowl is clean on your passenager side. Clean the inside plaste of the headlight too.

I dont understand why ours have different intensities when the newer bimmers have the same intensity on both sides. Then again i've never seen my car from afar so infinite might be right.

i havent seen any other valeos with the same problem on hidplanet. mayb im not searching right but its gotta b something that the installer did or something. either i find out or im just gonna plan on gettin different projectors nd installing em myself. is it possible to swap out the valeos and install the bosch projector fairly easily?

boogie had the same problem. Except his valeo had no intensity at all on both sides. But he has the h7 ones, so we were guessing it was the adaptors.

If your swaping out with the single xenon bosch then it should be easy. The bi-xenons are huge. Maybe swap it out with ece bosch's. The intensity on that seems pretty good from the pics i've seen.

Also keep in mind you might be losing intensity from the plastic cover from the headlights. See how the intensity looks without the covers.

sounds like you just need to possibly clean the lens of the projector. I think that might be alot of peoples problems with poor hid output.

you can try alcohol and a microfiber towel. I think microfiber is probably the softest towl you can probably buy.

i found that both lens did have some lint on em but its nothing that should cause a problem but they were bit dirty on the edges where the lens meets the metal bracket. but i did find 2 streaks or smears that were possibly made with finger nails or something. would that b causing the problem? here are pics i tried to get of the streaks:

see how the intensity is with the headlight covers off. We might be losing some intensity because of the cover.

either that or we're gonna need two driver side projectors lol.

^hahah. idk someone told me that its gonna b hard to find the exact projectors especially a driver side projector especially valeos. not sure if the cover would be the problem but you can never tell. my driver side cover has tiny scratches all over nd thats the side is the most intense nd the passenger side is in perfect shape nd that side is crap. ill eventually check out the projector.

one thing i wanna point out and question on is the ground pattern light...w.e its called. heres a pic:

WAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THAT?! its bugging me like crazy. help plz?

uhmm you have pics of your retro? Is the rotational alignment good? Sometimes if the rotational is a little off then it can effect foreground lighting. The only other suggestion i have is check to see how far the projector is from the end of the headlight cover. If its too far from the headlight cover, it'll effect foreground lighing.

oh yeah are the valeo's d2s or h7? The h7's have a little less foreground lighting then the d2s.

There's a guy that did a mazda 6 retro with a smilar problem, except worst then yours. I'll try taking pics tomorrow night.

http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/view...round+lighting

After looking at the first pic, looks like your rotational is a little off. Try adjusting a little.

That's how they're supposed to be. The passenger side projector flares up to light up the shoulder of the road or the lane beside you (passenger side). The drivers side doesn't flare up because if it did, you'd be blinding on coming traffic. That's why the beam pattern is the way it is... __/---

As for your passenger side projector being more dim... i'm not sure why.... this is just a guess but the light from both passenger and drivers side projector could be overlapping on the drivers side making it look the like drivers side projector is brighter. Again that's just a guess.

i tried the ignitor thing. I took it off and blew on it to get rid of any dust between the ignitor and the bulb. It kinda helped a little but the driver side is still brighter, just not as much.
