HID question

Alright guys, ive got Black housing projectors and i wanna get some HIDs, ive heard that you shouldnt put HIDs in the plastic black housing projectors because it'll get very hot, so is this true? if i want HIDs is the only way to use my stock headlights? thanks for all the help.

i think it should be ok. Its best if you ask gearbox or impluse this question. HID's use less wattage then halogens and i think they give off less heat then halogens. So they should be ok to use. Most people recommend you dont use those kind of projects for HIDS because the projectors weren't designed to use HIDS. Its best if you want to get that bimmer look to do a retrofit. If you just want brighter lights then your stock housing would probably be better.

thats about right. HID's run cooler than halogens because they are more efficient. Halogens are less than 10% effecient if you compare the amount of heat they emit compared to the light they output. You can put H1 HID's into your projectors, but you wont be too happy. If you want to keep projectors you should do a retrofit with HID lenses and their respective bulbs, ie DS2. I have HID's in my stock headlights, and am about to put some in my gf's 7thgen too. IMO, for the money, stock headlights w/HID's give you the most bang for the buck.

where are you getting your information? hids run at about 450*F at the hottest point, but it doesn't spread the heat the same way that halogen does. so, i guess in theory it is cooler than halogen, but literally it is waaaaaay hotter.

do a retrofit

Since you are have projectors, the housing doesnt matter cause the bulb is behind a projector/lense. You can get an aftermarket kit for OEM housing or Aftermarket Projectors.

Although, You can also go the retrofit route.
