$350 just to retrofit?!
Damn! i was looking at hidplanet.com and they have a retrofit service that you can send in your headlight assembly and for $350 (plus return shipping) they will put in HIDs (which btw you have to buy before hand)
so GD! thats a lot for lighting if you were to do it that way i assume around $600 - $650?

ya - so say if we sent you a set of TYC's what would the cost be for the actual HID kit and then retrofitted in the headlight assemblies and then shipped back. a ball park figure would be ok

Valeo projectors are on ebay a lot... Most go for around $130-180 (H7/Halogen) but, they work well with HIDs..
OR
you can get the real HID/Xenon Valeo projectors for around $250
Shipping is usually like $20 ups/usps ground...
So, If you are providing the TYCs/Headlamps > 400$ roughly?

ah fock it i'll just come out and ask. and i know and i know you guys flamed some noob for asking "what are HID's" in a thread a couple weeks back. but i just want some stuff cleared up. so here goes...
the assemblies are the part you can paint right?
and the projectors are the things with the lens on them that you put in the assemblies? right?
and then the HIDs are what you put behind the lens on the projectors ?
am i right? or way off?

2. and the projectors are the things with the lens on them that you put in the assemblies? right?
correct. here is a picture of the tyc projector out of the "headlight assembly" (i just call it a headlight..but whatever floats your boat).

3. and then the HIDs are what you put behind the lens on the projectors ?
sort of...
HID bulbs go inside the projector assembly. the rest of the HID kit should be installed elsewhere (it won't fit inside the projector....)
inside this hole (e46 xenon projector) behind the metal shield

rest of kit would be wiring [harness], ballasts, ignitors (if they're separate from the ballasts)...and i think that's all? you may use a relay so that your HIDs dont go out when you use the high beams, but thats complicated..

ballast is what sends power to the bulbs while they're on. ignitors spark the bulb to get them lighted and the ballast keeps them on

ahhhh i see. haha
alright since we're going with this - lets talk about the actual retrofit? what is involved in that? my thinking - having no background info, just a guess - is that you basically "make" the HID bulb fit into the projector right? shaing the sides or somehow making the opening bigger - then fitting the hid bulb and sealing it in? i dunno

you should buy a nice projector that will require little modification to fit. i found the best projector to use with TYCs is the valeo h7/d2s projectors out of an audi a4. they have a very nice cutoff, nice output, and the aiming bolts for the TYCs just need to be bent inward a little bit to fit the valeos.

will the valeo's fit in the TYC projector slots?
