OEM Foglight Lens Replacement: LEXAN, Brilliant

Its been a while since I posted here. If mod thinks this belongs in tech forums, please move.

So I've had my OEM Style Fogs for about a year now. The lens on one of them finally cracked and I've just sorta left it that way. Then, the other day my buddy bought a used RSX on ebay and drove it up. Both his fog lenses were cracked. He really wanted to fix them. He thought about it for a while and then came up with a great idea. LEXAN. $2.99 Sheet of LEXAN from homedept, 2 hrs later, a lot of sanding, and the lens were replaced.

Now I just kept thinking the entire time, I've read many complaints on this forums about the foglights cracking. Everyone complains about having to buy new ones. How come no one thought about replacing it with LEXAN. LEXAN has a melting point above 300 Degrees, cuts easy, clear as glass. Brilliant.

I'm going to the do the same to mine later on this week and post some pics. For all yall people with cracked foglights, go to homedepot or equivilant. 2hrs of work, $3 bucks later and you're back in business.

Laterz,
Obs

ya bro show some pics and also does it still light the same as original?
the OEM lense is convex I am guessing that the lexan you are using is flat.

hmmm, my lens broke about a month after I got my fog lights installed. Since my buddy worked at Home Depot I too got the idea of getting LEXAN to replace the lenses. I got the smoked colored LEXAN and then got some 7000k bulbs for the lights. I have had them now for over a year, and guess what... no cracks or anything, they look just like new and are still bright as hell and no fading, lenses still look very dark but bright when the lights are on. I should take a pic at night and post it to show huh, a day and night pic I mean... I may just do that.

Great idea there. Just wondering does anyone make a film to get over the lenes to protect them? I have seen aplications for headlights but never for fog lights.

This is a good idea if lenses are already broken. If you get new fogs, get lamin-x protective film. It's clear and protective while leaving the light pattern alone.

I did that when my foglight cracked. And guess what?? It melted the plastic!!! Standard wattage bulbs too. I didn't use Lexan brand. Would that make a difference?
Anyway, I bought a replacement housing instead.

Did you just use plexi or actual lexan?

It wasn't Lexan brand. Some other brand Lowes had for sale. I think Home Depot sells Lexan. I'll try them whenever I can get there.

Lexan is completely different than other hard plastics. I had some plexi I was using for stuff and that will melt easily. fyi, lexan is used to make gauge needles because of it's weight and light reflective properties.
