How much you pay for new brakes?

My car needs new brakes and I got a quote from a shop for $150. Is this what it usually costs to change brakes?

I'm aksing because I'm debating if I should try to do it myself cuz it looks like a pretty simple job. Any input will be appreciated.

Why not install them yourself. I'm doing my g/f's brakes this weekend for the first time.

The bad news is your probally gonna need some tools you dont have.

The good news is autozone will rent you the tools for free, with just a refundable deposit.

Doing it this way should save you some money and is worth it, unless like alot of people time is worth more to you than money....

You can rent any tool from autozone. How does that work?

you just go to autozone and tell them what tool you want to rent and then you pay a deposit for it, and when you bring the tool back, they give you your deposit back.

If your only changing the front brakes, then I think you should try to do it yourself. There's a DIY on this site, and it explains how to do it in detail. Disc brakes are really easy to do.

If you are changing your rear brakes, but don't know how to do it. I think you could still manage to get by, but drum brakes are a little different.
