Best ECU Mod?

I have an automatic 2004 Civic EX and have been trying to decide on what fuel/air management system to go with:

- AEM EMS
- Greddy E-Manage
-Apexi VAFC-II
-Venom 400

What do you guys reccommend, and will all of these work with an automatic transmission. I plan on getting turbo within a couple of months, if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

- AEM EMS not applicable to the 7th gen
- Greddy E-Manage definatly the way to go, Especially with a boost application.
-Apexi VAFC-II not that great
-Venom 400 this will advance your timing a bit.. bad for boost

Not available yet. The venom only tricks some sensors, and the vafcII gets reset by the ecu. So get the e-manage and the bypass that sends the ecu a fake "okay" signal under 1psi of boost.

adjust fuel curves. Also with the ignition harness, it allows your to advance or retard your timing.

there is no point in getting an EMS unless you have some serious mods (i.e forced induction or severe engine work).. save your money and do your mods first.

unless you have some engine work done it would be kinda pointless to get any type of ems. put in some mods first

vafcII is good for light mods. It doesn't work on 03-04 civic ecu. E-manage and ems are overkill, and venom plain sucks.

that's weird, i can't get my vtec to kick in properly without the cel coming on with the v-afc2....

i was thinking about emanage, but does anyone think it's actually worth it for a n/a car?

The VAFC works to adjust fuel. The vtec controller portion is only good as a VTEC light or if you do a LS/EX vtec conversion. DO not mess with the VTEC engagement points. It will make you car do weird things. I know from dyno tuning. Stock ECU does not like VTEC changed.

The e-manage has functions you'll never need like timing adjust, injector duty cycle, etc. Plus it's a pain to tune it. Most shops don't know how to do it right.

That's very strange about your vtec. Did you ever get a code reader and find out what the cel number was? That will tell you at least what's wrong.

gerabox, i'm already 4 steps ahead of you...yea, i got it to work once on the dyno, got amazing numbers...but since after that, the cel always comes on...i checked the code and it was just the vtec problem code...can't delete the code, nothing...so i dunno, i'll just leave it as stock i guess

did you solder your connections or use crimps. You have to solder the conections. maybe that is your problems

i've used the greddy system (with the e-01) on different cars and the apexi model. personally, i think they're both very good but I prefer the apexi. once you learn it's complicated system there is really no limit to what you can do with it. and if you got the boost controller they make it looks nice having the two together.

the e manage is easier to use, especially with the e-01 or the newer 02 model

get obit by cartonics

obit is a great ECU designed for closed looped systems like the newer Civics
http://www.obitasia.com/piggyback_ecu_o-bit.htm
function include: http://www.obitasia.com/function.htm

recorded 15% bhp gain after dyno. i think is impressive for an NA car solely boosted by electronics & simple i/h/e bolt ons alone.

The AEM ECU is out for the motor, however the multiplex controller isn't functioning at this time.

im getting ems. and yes there is one for our cars. ems can do more stuff than e-manage. I would go with ems, but only if you have money and the mods to work it. I usually only see higher end vehicles using the ems, such as supras etc.
