Rep Power: 164 Anybody put Cree LED towers in brake lights and turn signals?
Hey guys,
I ordered this for my brake lights.
I figure with the brake lights, they'll pay for themselves eventually in fuel savings and not having to replace them. Maybe 5 years. (EDIT: I should get it by friday).
I was going to use 80w red Cree LED towers but they are longer than 2", about 2.5" I think and my housing in my 1999 Coupe only have room for about 2" long. So hopefully those are at least as bright as stock in sunlight.
But with the turn signal it appears the housing have enough room for the 80w Cree LED towers, which have a realistic power consumption of about 0.75 amps or so.
Has anybody tried these? I know the regular SMD leds aren't that bright. You need an LED that takes 7 watts or more to get to stock brightness really, from what I've seen.
The cheapest 80w Cree towers I've seen are on Aliexpress for $24.50 a set on sale. Cree XB-D or aftermarket LED copy, because genuine I think has 2 pads instead of 1. I don't think they'll ever pay for themselves since just the front 2 are running lights and turn signals don't have as much full-on time as brake lights. If I do, I plan on replacing the flasher module so I don't need resistors.

Amazon review I made with link to photobucket with pictures and video!
Bottom line, so far it's a good buy. Brighter than stock in sunlight. http://www.amazon.com/review/R2ESCFM...ore=automotive
