Rep Power: 0 CV boot punctured
I noticed that the outer cv boot on the driver's side was torn and all the grease has leaked out. I don't know when that happened, I drove off road about a month ago so maybe a rock hit it?
In any case I don't hear any bad sounds so far but I should do something before it overheats because of lack of lubrication. I'll try to fix it myself since money now is an issue. My main question is: Should I just replace the boot or all the axle? Those boot kits are very cheap ($7-15).
Does anyone know what's the difference between:

and:

and why the axles on the market are between $40-$60.. way cheaper than the in the links above. I want to make sure I get the right part and something I can rely on.

Re: CV boot punctured
I would not recommend the boot kits. That should only be a temporary fix for they don't seal up very well at the ends and the seals sometimes. So if you need some time to get a new axle then that would work for a little while as long as you pack it with more grease when you do it. You might also consider a used axle for a lot of them still have good boots on them which will be cheaper than buying new. Hope that helps, sorry I can't answer your other questions. Good luck and godbless to ya. Dan
