LCD Screen

Hey guys. I'm going to install a LCD screen in my car with a laptop, and GPS hooked up to that. I wanted to mount the LCD screen where the HU spot is, and move the HU some where else. My question is, if I were to mount the LCD screen where the HU is, can I make some sort of cover type thing to hide the LCD when it's not in use? The "cover" would have to cover the whole area where the LCD shows including all the gaps around it because the look I want to go for is just a big 'ol console with just the controls on it. Here's some pics to help you understand, I don't think that was a clear explanation

lol.... ummm best thing I can think of is just get one of the LCD's that pop out of the unit, ya know like retracting, so when your not using it it's hidden, or just get a really good alarm....or just tape a cloth over it when ur not using it but that will look a little suspicious

I'm gonna see if I can't find someone to do that for me...like custom fabricate it for me. That would look so clean if I could get something like that, or make something! Hmmm....who do I ask about that kind of stuff? Like what kind of shops do I ask about custom fabrication?

reLaXedinca: Thanks for the pics, I might just have some questions for you about your install later on The only reason I want a cover for it is to protect it from the California heat during the summer, and the bastard thieves that want a new toy. Poop on the thieves!

dober: I don't have a LCD yet, but I'm just getting all my questions/concerns with it answered BEFORE I buy it, that's all

NeoMagus: I've thought about the little moterized ones, but I like the just the screen itself. The moterized ones are quite a big chunk of change too. I like having the clean look to it that you cant get with a moterized one, but you can achieve if you have just the LCD mounted like reLaXedinca has

RelaxedInca :: I would also like to know how you fabricated that opening. Also where did you run the power wire to?

Hey guys, if I wanted to make something like I am looking into getting done, how would I go about making? What should I make it out of? If I wanted it to get it made somewhere else, how much should I expect to pay?
