Rep Power: 0 Engine rebuild question for first timer
So here is my question. I have acquired a1994 honda del sol with a seized d15b7 engine. Do I bore the d15b7 out or go with a different engine? I am going to rebuild whatever I put in. I have been wanting to rebuild an engine for quite some time. I figured what better place to start. The del sol looks like it will be a blast to drive plus gas mileage is great for a dd. I am an electrician by trade for the past 20 years and have rebuilt things like tractor tranny, motorcycles, etc. I have just never done a complete engine. I have all the tools necessary to do this job. I am just looking for pointers on whether or not I should stick with boring block or get junk yard engine to rebuild?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: Engine rebuild question for first timer
If it seized, you can probably expect crank/bearing/block/rods/piston issues right off the bat, and that usually isn't cheap. Machine shop work is not cheap either.
I normally would not try to save a seized engine due to cost, unless it's rare and valuable.
You can open it up to find out why it seized, and see how bad the damage is and go from there....call around, get estimates, compare different approaches.
IMO you would probably be better off and cheaper to locate a good used engine (or a completely different running engine) and of course freshen it up before install.

JMHO, YMMV
