Question O2 sensor wiring Colors - y8 to y7 swap

I bought a 00 civic EX. It was originally a automatic D16Y8, it is now a D16Y7 manual...

When I bought it, the upstream O2 sensor in the manifold had the wires cut off. I installed a new sensor, and realized the plug is missing on the cars wire harness... I found a collection of wires in the engine bay that are cut off.

There are a lot of extra wires in the engine bay, since it has a VTEC harness, but a non-vtec engine (Y7).

I am trying to determine what wires (colors) from the engine harness go to the upstream O2 sensor.

I tried researching and google, but I am not finding wire colors. I have a manual at home, but i could not find in there either.... Any help!?

Thanks.

Re: O2 sensor wiring Colors - y8 to y7 swap

I bought a 00 civic EX.
No.....it sounds more like you bought a hacked up mess.
I'll suggest you get your money back before wasting another second.

Does it have to pass an emissions test? Good luck.

IDK what harness you have in it,and I bet you don't either.

One diagram I found for 96-00 shows engine harness blk/yel and blk/wht go to the front O2 sensor heater
Grn/blk is sensor ground
WHt is sensor input

Post Re: O2 sensor wiring Colors - y8 to y7 swap

unfortunately this car didn't come with a return policy.

It does need emissions. I got past the first one with a waiver though so i have time...

It has an EX wiring harness, and a DX ECU...

Ill have to check my mess of wires for those colors

I think I read somewhere else, the sensor heater wires can be swapped? So when i hard wire the engine wires to the sensor wires, the heater leads dont need to match as long as the ground and the input wires are correct. Is this True?

Thanks

The 96-00 factory manual is very common to find online for free.

Heater wires can be switched.
The other two cannot.

In the diagram I looked at....An original sensor would match its white wire with the white on the harness (sensor input).
If you have aftermarket sensor all bets are off as to what colors may be for.

Most sensors I have seen have a pair of identical colored wires for the heater.

Re: O2 sensor wiring Colors - y8 to y7 swap

Any recommendations on where i can find these wires without tearing apart the entire harness? Is there a certain part of the harness where they should come out, maybe i could start there?

Looks like BOTH of the O2 sensor pigtails should break out of the main harness bundle approximately at the distributor area.

I'm jut looking at diagrams though, I have no real car here to look at.
