transmission noise

hi im new to this and i have a issue with my 98 honda civic... its a jdm d15 and a 5 speed tranny... the problem is there is a weird noise coming from my tranny.... it doesnt make the noise all the time.. sometimes in first always in third and sometimes in 4th... it makes a rubbing like noise.. not sure if its my tranny or my clutch... the noise goes away when i push the clutch in as well. if you know what is the issue please let me know

Re: transmission niose

I am taking my 96 civic in next week to have the whole tranny rebuilt because the syncronizer is malfunctioning and i will get similar sounds and it even progressed to grinding when shifting into first gear unless the car is stopped. i hate trannies! relatively cheap parts, but the rebuild labor never is. my advice... if you have to rebuild the tranny. fix everything at once.

Re: transmission noise

True i could put a whole new tranny in, but i don't have the means nor the time to do so really. Plus with something that critical to the cars function, i want someone else to do it so it is covered under their warranty and they will fix it should anything happen between now and a year from now. anyways, good luck. FYI the guy i go to quoted me 560 for the labor alone and then parts are additional. just to give you a rough estimate.
