Rep Power: 0 2000 Civic just died at 80 mph
Just bought my kid a 2000 Civic LX with 1.6L and auto trans
Runs perfect until last night. He said he was on tollroad and was clipping along at 80 mph and then all of a sudden the car just "shuts" off. He coasted to the shoulder, put it in park and it re-started just fine. He said it ran fine the rest of the way home from SA to Austin Only thing he said was that he was kinda low on fuel. Where do I start? Known issue?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

My GUESS:
If the dash looked dark (no warning lights at all) while coasting to a stop, just as though someone had reached over and turned off the ignition switch, it needs an ignition switch.
Recall item?
EDIT: Yes it's a recall item. See your dealership. (Even if it's already had the recall completed in the past, the part failed again and needs replaced again under the recall. You may have a hard time arguing this with some dealership personnel, but it can usually be done.)
There are a ton of things that can kill the engine, not many others will let the car run again after it stalls though.
