My son has a 2000 ex coupe with 94,000 miles on it we have noticed its using a 1/2 to 1 qt. of oil every few hundred miles. The has not visable smoke , but does have carbon build up around tail pipe and does get some soot residue on the bumper above the tail pipe. The car does have MIL On with 1457 code evap shut valve, canister. I tested the valve and it seems fine even tried resealing it with silicone. still getting the code. could the two issues be related? Car runs great though. Any Ideas?

That is not enough miles that it should be pumping oil past the rings. You say it runs OK. Cat can easily hide that much oil by burnings it. That purge valve if it is stuck maybe could be using vacuum to pull oil out of engine and purge it into intake. Pull the vacuum hoses off it and see if any are oily . That is a lot of oil going somewhere into exhaust

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

EVAP code is not related to oil consumption.
Yes a cat can hide a LOT of oil smoke.
Is there white ashy buildup on the spark plugs?
Most common issue would be stuck oil control rings.
