Question re: belt replacement 06 civic

I have 100k miles on my 06 civic EX. I plan to replace the serpentine belt. Does anyone know if it's required or a good idea to replace any or all pulleys as well or is it ok to just replace the belt.

Thanks.

Also, an unrelated question to belts. I plan to replace the spark plugs with NGK iridium plugs. Does anyone have a recommendation for the best place to buy them? Pep Boys didn't sell them.

Thanks.

The original belt is EPDM rubber, and most last far longer than 100k. Turning brownish is normal and no reason to replace it IMO.

I look for large cracks on the ribs of the grooved side of the belt. If there are many cracks, then it's time to replace it.
Or if it is otherwise damaged somehow.

I would not mess with any pulleys unless there is a problem, like a bad bearing.

If your car had any of the product updates completed (water pump, water pump pulley, water pump pulley bolts, auto-tensioner bolt, or the bulletin for noise that entailed rerouting the serp belt) then it may have already had the belt replaced as part of one of those updates.

So it may not be as old as you think.

And all the aftermarket belts I have seen so far don't last anywhere near as long as the factory supplied parts.

NGK IZFR6K-11S
or
DENSO SKJ20DR-M11S

Most decent parts stores (the ones that supply the pros usually do) I would expect they can special order the NGK plugs, and any Honda dealer should have one of those plugs in stock.
Or use http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/

Re: Question re: belt replacement 06 civic

Thanks for your input Ezone.

I honestly don't recall if the belt was ever replaced. I'll have to check my records but I do sort of recall a water pump recall.

Belt is definitely brown but doesn't look bad.

Some folks have said 100K is a good time to replace to avoid a problem. Same with plugs. I figured I would see how people respond on here.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

Being an 06, it is extremely likely that it was replaced at that time as part of the recall.
I would expect to see at least 10 years/150-200k out of it.

GMs' suppliers started using the same material for many of their belts in 2004 and released service info calling them "lifetime" belts with 150,000 mile life expectancy.

100k is due for plugs according to the maintenance minder.
Probably also due for coolant if it hasn't been done already.
