Re-Painting Trim Pieces

Got a question.. two months ago some punks broke into my car and stole my cd player and stereo equip. etc... They did a number w/ my trim pieces... I can see scratches and such. Now my question is... whats the process of me repainting my trim pieces? Can I just prime it and repaint? Or do i have to strip the paint(wat materials to use)?

ak can only hope to improve
DO NOT USE PAINT THINNER OR ANY OTHER PAINT REMOVER

The new paint would not stick then!

Here's what you do:

1. Use 400grit wetsand paper to smooth out the paint. No need to sand it down until the paint is gone...just enough so it's smooth to touch.
(Wetsand paper: dip sand paper in water bucket for 5 minutes...keep it wet or else it will create scratches on the surface)

2. Apply 3 light coats of paint. No need for primering either... 15 minute intervals between coats. (12" away)

3. Apply 2 layers of clear coat. 20 minute intervals.

4. Let it all dry for 1.5 hours and put it back together.

I explained all this in more detail in another "painting trim" thread, but i can't find it right now. Maybe you can search for it...heheh

I hope this helps,
ak

ok i just used gas to remove some paint off some trim, it came RIGHT off, used 400 grit sp, (wet), used primer, repainted it, it works great, the primer and paint, and clear coat all stick fine,
