Safe boost level?

I did a search but I couldnt find any post about the maximum safe boost level for our cars. I know that I read a post saying that the intake manifold splits at like 11, and the block is good for 12 but I cant find any specific numbers. I know that it would be safe to run my kit at 8PSI, but would 9 be too much?

Jaykuai 06-17-2003 09:21 PM

highest i have seen to date is 8, so i would suggest to stay there..

Catalyst 06-17-2003 09:50 PM

has anyone here actually broken anything with a turbo besides the headgasket?

Has anyone blown pistons, broken rods, or spun bearings?

Diemos 06-18-2003 02:01 AM

i think you should crank it up to 10lbs Catalyst and tell us what breaks.. if nothing breaks! Great!

RiceBuRNeR 06-18-2003 09:17 AM

I know that someone blew their intake manifold a while back, but I cant remeber how much boost they were running.

ohmysac 06-18-2003 10:11 AM

i thought they were running nitrous and not a turbo

RiceBuRNeR 06-18-2003 12:07 PM

^ I saw that post as well. This was back in april I think.

EManEX 06-18-2003 12:20 PM

I think 99blckCivic or what ever his name was blew the oil filter because of the high preasure. Wait he had a N/A engine.

RiceBuRNeR 06-18-2003 01:17 PM

I remember that post as well, but its not the right one. The guy specificly said that he turned his boost pressure to X PSI and after about 5 minutes the intake manifold split.

orso 06-18-2003 08:45 PM

um i reaaly think it was pooled nitrous in the manifold and it suddenly ignited causing it to explode, or split if you will.

Catalyst 06-18-2003 11:08 PM

i had mine at 13 psi, so i know its doesnt do anything at 10

AzNmiKex215 06-19-2003 12:52 AM

id say just start out at around 6 then slowing go up untill u feel that anymore would be too much. i mean u might be happy with just 8 psi.

how much are kidneys going for now days.. anyone need one? i sell u mines for $3,000 ;)

more the reason to get the kms manifold, eh?

RiceBuRNeR 06-19-2003 12:19 PM

So 9 would be safe w/ the propper fuel tuning right?

Catalyst 06-19-2003 01:08 PM

as long as it doesnt detonate

RiceBuRNeR 06-19-2003 01:33 PM

Thats why I bought an aftermarket knock sensor. Ill explain more about it when I do the install.

SiN 808 06-20-2003 12:42 AM

I know a CRX here on Maui boost'in 14 PSI and hasn't blown anything yet......he claims he did no internals......its a D16 VTEC I think.....but I don't know it matterz, its a CRX not a 7th gen....

CIVIC808 06-20-2003 01:08 AM

for how long were you boosting it at that? i thought anything over 8 psi was risking it.

Catalyst 06-20-2003 01:10 AM

i was like that for less than a day.

My crx ran 15 psi daily driven on a SOHC ZC with no internal mods.

SiN 808 06-20-2003 01:20 AM

This is with no internals right? Damn thats a good fuel system!!!Can't wait for my kit....got beat by a WRX AUTO last night!!!! 1 car length....

pooled nitrous... nitrous igniting? um.. nitrous... is um... non-flammable...

CIVIC808 06-20-2003 01:38 AM

but with air and fuel with it........kaboom

SiN 808 06-20-2003 10:12 PM

It'll be like 4th of July

Catalyst 06-21-2003 03:31 AM

nitrous cannot pool. do you know how much pressure it takes to keep it a liquid?

CarbonFly 06-21-2003 07:56 AM

Go ahead and turn it up until it blows. A new D17 engine goes for $700 or less on ebay.

C2i0v0i1C 06-21-2003 05:49 PM

first what is a kms manifold and if its a replacement for the plastic crap we have i want one right now, all im doing as far as internals is pistons so we will see how well that goes, and i got my engine for 850 not on ebay

Catalyst 06-22-2003 07:14 PM

if you guys buy me another engine, i will show you how much boost and nitrous our engines can hold

cdmx 06-23-2003 01:20 AM

haha ok lets start the donation

iceman 06-26-2003 11:57 AM

isnt it always best to work on ur cars internal before goin force induction...just so that ur car can handly higer boost...if so what kind of internals can be done

SomeDoodToo 06-26-2003 12:06 PM

Where the FU** are you getting a turbo.....I know you can have them made but iam waiting for a place to have already made one for a 7th gen.... I live in florida.....and if u know a price that would help me out also...Thanks
