Engine Swap with 2002 Civic LX I currently have a stock 2002 Civic LX that has 200,000 miles on it now and the engine needs replacing. I would like to get something that is within the budget (anything below or around 3k) but also is a step up on the speed factor. I am currently looking at at H22A(not sure what year) or some sort of RSX engine. Are either of these do-able? If so, what year? And is there something around the same price that would be better to use? -Dave |
Re: Engine Swap with 2002 Civic LX Cheap option: swap in a d17a2 (01-05 ex). Small increase in horsepower (127hp vs your 115hp). It's the easiest swap to do other than a newer d17a1. More expensive option: k20/24 swap (02-05 civic si, rsx, rsx-s, tsx, etc). Doing this for less than 3000 would be hard to pull off, unless you get the engine and transmission for holy good jeebus cheap Keep in mind that te engine going in needs to be as old or newer than your chassis otherwise the swap will be illegal. That pretty much throws any h or b series out the window, not to mention, those swaps would take tremendous amounts of custom fabrication. |
Re: Engine Swap with 2002 Civic LX I agree get the d17a2 engine, it is the cheapest and easiest swap. It will give you decent gains in HP. for the price of the k20/24 swap you might as well buy a used rsx. |
Re: Engine Swap with 2002 Civic LX I just bought a k24 for $200...just need the stuff to make it fit into the car (about 2k if you find some deals) And the k24a1 which I have is rated at 160hp. So there's an option for you. I, on the other hand, am going down the long and expensive road of a $20k turbo k20/24 frank build. ;) |
Re: Engine Swap with 2002 Civic LX How in the hell did you find a K24 for $200...? Hook it up with this deal! lol |
