Turbo break in period

I heard that you have to break in your turbo and i was wondering how i would do that and for how long

PdchasinR6 08-14-2003 02:06 PM

well....breaking, yeah...breaking it in....i made it about 10 blocks from my house before i was flooring it, of course that was after i drove it around my neighborhood for 10 minutes looking for leaks and making sure everything was right.

andyman97 08-14-2003 02:15 PM

30 miles and you should be good to go ;)

Catalyst 08-14-2003 03:36 PM

yup. 30 miles.

UnOrthodox9546 08-14-2003 03:45 PM

30 miles of doing what? running low boost or just not flooring it everywhere?

andyman97 08-14-2003 03:57 PM

Don't shift over 3k rpm for the first 30 miles.

Boosted2k2 08-14-2003 04:40 PM

30 miles? I've heard and read all over that it was at least 300 miles.

Catalyst 08-14-2003 05:22 PM

we recommend 30 miles

futurersxswap 08-14-2003 08:02 PM

30 miles like whoa... gonna be hard as HELL not to floor it when i get it done, but if i can do this gay ass break in period on my clutch, ANYTHINGS possible...

ExOrCizT 08-14-2003 08:16 PM

i wanna drive down to the shop and have SFpower install mine, they are 6 hours away of wide open highway, how am i gonna manage to do this? cuz as soon as i see a open stretch my foot automatically floors it! lol.

zinkyroo 08-15-2003 02:40 AM

I also heard it was 300...

UnOrthodox9546 08-15-2003 09:33 AM

Wait, now im confused. Is it 30 or 300

K20me 08-15-2003 10:56 AM

Hey I'm Pretty sure Andyman and Catalyst were just being sarcastic about the 30 mile break-in period...I can see how it'd be hard to go 30 miles w/out flooring it...can't wait to get mine! :D

cdmx 08-17-2003 02:25 AM

no they weren't

Boosted2k2 08-17-2003 11:30 AM

I heard 300, but HKS and GReddy recommend something like 500 miles.

RiceBuRNeR 08-19-2003 03:57 PM

UnOrthodox9546 08-19-2003 06:39 PM

and nothing went wrong?

andyman97 08-19-2003 06:48 PM

Nope, turbo is perfectly fine.

UnOrthodox9546 08-19-2003 09:18 PM

sweet, cant wait!!!!

Catalyst 08-20-2003 03:42 AM

yup, the turbo is in perfect shape. Turbos are made to run right from the get go. We recommend 30 miles of easy driving because it makes sure the seals are all set in place.
