Drag Racing Accident Kills Two, Injures Two

(Chandler, AZ) -- A drag racing incident on the Loop 101 south of Warner Road has left two people dead, and two others hospitalized in critical condition. DPS says officers were called to the scene of the wreck at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses told investigators a yellow Honda coupe and a black Mustang were darting in and out of southbound traffic at a high rate of speed. They say the driver of the Honda lost control, flew into the median and slammed head-on into a northbound SUV. The impact split the Honda into pieces and its occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. The Scottsdale couple in the SUV was taken to the hospital. The dead men are identified as the driver, 19-year-old Ray Hernandez-Estefes, and 21-year-old passenger, Edwardo Garcia-Folano, both of Tempe. Police are still searching for the black car involved in the incident.

Learn to not race in the street

I know that there is plenty of dragracing venues and Autocross events in and around the Phoenix area, so street racing is totally unnessisary.

Arizona Region SCCA

This is what gives repsonsible civic drivers a bad name. I hope the SUV passengers are okay.

Street racing should be for the track or when you are at a spot with open road and no traffic at night, I admit, I street race but not when there tons of traffic around and risking my life or other people's. People are stupid and now there have been two street racing accidents in the past 5 days! Ridiculous

gearbox 02-13-2004 12:22 AM

Yeah really. Throw your whole life away for a stupid car race. How dumb is that?
