First legal drag experience.

Hey y'all,

I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be participating in my first legal drag racing experience on January 24th at Firebird Raceway. There are having an SCO night and I thought it might be kinda cool to head on down to the valley of the sun and see what's up. If anyone else is interested I was thinking we could meet up prior to the drags and go down together and possibly make a mini-meet out of it and try and get a group of pits together and have our own 7th Gen Row. Anyway, if anyone is interested or has gone before and has any tips, suggestions, feedback please let me know.

alex053 01-11-2004 07:52 PM

isnt there an SCCA even going on that same weekend?

ponyman 01-12-2004 10:23 AM

I don't believe so...at least not out at Firebird, at least there website doesn't mention anything about it, or am I just blind???

AZ2K1Civic 01-12-2004 11:57 AM

That could be cool...I havent been out there in a while

ponyman 01-15-2004 01:52 PM

So, it has been decided that I am definitely going. A few of my NAU buddies are also going to be going down in a WRX that we are going to try and talk the owner into letting it loose.

ponyman 01-25-2004 07:18 PM

Well I managed to pull a mildly respectible 16.712 @ 82.68 MPH. I need some practice on my starts. I had a couple of really bad starts that if I had gotten out of the hole better I would have easily pulled some high 15's, but I will just have to work on that. Just thought I would tell everyone. That and now I think I am hooked.

alex053 01-25-2004 09:02 PM

nice job!

AZ2K1Civic 01-26-2004 11:57 AM

Right on...Im nervous about taking my car out there b/c I dont know what Im doin...good job

AZNRACR 01-26-2004 11:58 AM

same here Chris, don't wanna embarass my self

ponyman 01-26-2004 12:10 PM

You would be suprised at how laid back everyone is. Everyone is there to have a good time and that is it. The only people that anyone talked $hit about are the people we were being jacka$$'s. It was a really good time and you get to meet some cool people. If you guys ever wanted to go, I would definitely be willing to come down and go with you, given I can get the time off and all. We could make it a 7thGen day at the tracks. Since there were only 2 others there, but I told one of them about the site, the other I could never find.

topnotch7gen 01-26-2004 07:10 PM

hey, i was out there on Saturday night, what color was your car because I probably saw you out there. SCO wasnt as good as the last times they have had it because I think people thoguht they werent having it because it rained the other day so.......hopefully next SCO there will be more cars out there.

ponyman 01-26-2004 09:23 PM

I'm Rallye Red with all the stuff in my sig.

topnotch7gen 01-27-2004 08:54 AM

did you have the Si wheels cause if you did i think I remember seeing you there, there was a white 7thgen to that was really low with the hubcaps off the fronts.

olytrojan 01-27-2004 11:33 AM

i don't know if you saw me but i was up there. i drive the nbp with the black wheels. i ran a 16.922 @ 81.62

ponyman 01-27-2004 11:38 AM

Olytrojan, I think I saw you during one race when I was taking a break.

n20hcvc, I don't have the SI wheels, I just have stock 7 or 8 spoke is what I think it has.

All, I think I am going to go down to SIR this Saturday to run their Test 'N Tune. If anyone is interested then let me know.

FALKEN 01-27-2004 12:09 PM

whats SIR??

ponyman 01-27-2004 12:30 PM

Southwestern International Raceway, it is in Tucson. As it turns out AZ has three drag tracks. Two in PHX and 1 in Tucson.

http://www.sirace.com go here check it out, full schedule for test and tunes

FALKEN 01-27-2004 12:35 PM

cool...thanks

(i thought you meant PIR)

AZNRACR 01-27-2004 01:14 PM

I might go check it out on Sat night ponyman. But it all depends on if I go up to Phoenix that night. I'll let you know.

Mike

topnotch7gen 01-27-2004 07:56 PM

thats cool, i had no idea Arizona had more tracks that you could drag at. I would try to go up there but I dont think anybody in my club would want to drive to Tucson but I wlll definitely ask that way it keeps us off the streets here in phoenix!

ponyman 01-28-2004 12:45 PM

So here is the info on Saturday at SIR.

Gates open at 8AM.

Track goes hot between 9:00AM and 9:30AM.

Tech closes at Noon.

Track closes at 5PM.

Just if anyone wanted to know. It looks like my GF and I are gonna go down, since here parents live down there. Gonna try to get her bro to break out his Camero, with an LT1 transplant.

ponyman 01-29-2004 02:28 PM

So, it is confirmed. We are going down. If anyone wants to meet up at the track, or something, just let me know and we will figure it out.

AZNRACR 02-01-2004 03:45 PM

How were the races Ponyman, sorry I couldn't go, but I was actually up in Phoenix this weekend.

Mike

racing in the forum again, man i missed the cold season, hopefully it doesnt send too soon, id love to see how my car feels in this beautifull weather again

ponyman 02-05-2004 12:31 PM

SIR was okay, it was windy as fu(k though. And they seemed to give preference to everyone except the sport compacts, which got annoying after awhile. Other than that it was still fun.

come out to FIR in March and see the difference

topnotch7gen 02-05-2004 01:10 PM

SCO night is always pretty fun especially when it doesnt rain the day before.:(

ponyman 02-05-2004 02:20 PM

I have been to Firebird, I was there on the 24th, hence the existance of this thread. That is why I suggested the location of the next meet. However, I will be in the middle of the Caribbean during the meet. Or I would go down, as SCO night was kick a$$.

FALKEN 02-05-2004 02:39 PM

Well, let's just say I have been known to, in the past, fracture a traffic law, or 2, and I haven't always done the smartest things. Chris close your eyes :) , but I used to do some street racing and I have long ago decided that is not the best way to get my adrenaline rush. But, now I am hooked on the whole track thing.
