I'm smokin my stock tails!

I ordered the tint and clear tonight...hopefully I'll have it done by this weekend.

topnotch7gen Nov 2, 2004 03:15 AM

hey, why don't you put a sticker of your last name on your back window? I think that would kick ass dude! :p j/k

Where did you order the tint spray from? I've been wanting to do mine for quite some time now and don't know where to get the right stuff.

JoeyOKC Nov 2, 2004 06:28 AM

I was thinking of having actual tint put on there about a week ago. Anybody know if that would stay/work? Cuz if so, whenever I tint my car, I would do my tailz as well. I think it would look good, and maybe stay better than paint next to the heat. Since the outside bulb/lens cover thingy doesnt get hot. I finally ordered my Goldlines today. Should be here friday

Rufus Nov 2, 2004 02:26 PM

I just saw a camber kit end on ebay that I missed by an hour. It ended at 32 bucks. Some guy in glendale! DAMMIT!!!

shifthis Nov 2, 2004 02:29 PM

I thought you already had a camber kit on your car?

Rufus Nov 2, 2004 02:31 PM

Nope, just lifted the rear end back to stock. The stereo drops it to the same height as the eibachs in the front though

shifthis Nov 2, 2004 02:42 PM

thats funny, my stereo has my wheels tucked and I have a camber kit. I am waiting for my GC to come in before I take it back to fix the camber again. But it took about a week for the camber to be off after adjusting it. I hope it was just because the springs settled and kicked it out.

Rufus Nov 2, 2004 02:45 PM

You mean in? Anyways when are we doing your taillights?

shifthis Nov 2, 2004 02:54 PM

ya, top of the tire in botton of the tire out, We'll have to talk about the taillights, Im not completely sold on the idea.

FALKEN Nov 2, 2004 03:15 PM

It came with a washer that you screw on before the knob actually goes on right? If so, this happened to my buddy as well, you don't need the washer it's just there to give you that extra grip so it wont loosen on ya but I doubt it will. Anyways try it without the washer and it should be straight. Let me know if this helped :)

shifthis Nov 4, 2004 01:54 PM

If I use the washer I can compress the two together to make it straight it just seems really high. If I dont use the washer I like the height but it isnt straight. I did a search and possible the only way to correct this is to get a short shifter.

i have the same knob...
mine didnt line up either, but a little bit of LocTite-222MS on the threads did the trick :D

topnotch7gen Nov 4, 2004 01:58 PM

hmmm....that's wierd. My friends is dtraight if he doesn't use the washer but if he does use it it is backwards maybe because he has a crx shifter. I don't know, I'm confused

topnotch7gen Nov 4, 2004 02:00 PM

cut your shifter and re weld it, bad Idea? I've heard of people on the site doing it!

shifthis Nov 4, 2004 02:25 PM

so with the loc tite you can stop before the end and it is tight? I dont want to cut and weld anything.

FALKEN Nov 4, 2004 02:36 PM

i just put some on the bottom half of the threads (of the stick) and then screwed the knob on until it wouldnt go any further...then backed it off until it was aligned...allowed it sit overnight

hackers do that for making a short-shifter (it does nothing but shorten the stick, not the throw)

you could cut the stick down (at the top where the threads are) and then file/rethread the stick...
why would you want to do that if LocTite works??

shifthis Nov 4, 2004 02:49 PM

agreed, last question. since I plan on buying a short shifter in the future, if I put this loc tite on now. In the future will I be able to take the knob off.

Tommy Tran Nov 4, 2004 03:05 PM

I've done several shift knobs this way...
take a small(and I mean small!) piece of paper and stuff it in the knob it compresses relatively easy and should help line it up get enough in there(thru trial and error) to get the numbers to line up when you twist that fugger on there gootantite(say with thick German accent). It should only take 1-3 tries before its good...

My Greddy knob in my Accord is done that way, my moms type R knob in her EP, and the type R knob in my GF's 7th gen, my friend Tony's Accord..... blah you get the idea....

Cutting the shaft will shorten the throw, now before I get toasted(flamed) think back to geometry, if point A is the axis point like on a shifter and point B is the original height of the shifter at the end of the knob and its, lets say 8 inches it moves X distance through Y (degrees of angle to shift).
Cut the shaft to 4 inches(B) and A doesnt change and neither does Y but X does cause the lever is shorter.(could I make it any harder to understand heh :o
Thats why short shifters are often stiffer because they are using a shorter lever to do the same amount of work...(like in EK's and whatnot with rod driven shift linkages, adapter short shifters( like my accord) are weird and dont always fall into that description)

Personally... just get a short shifter if thats what you're going for

Peace

just use a LITTLE bit...
or you could just wait to install it until you get the short-shifter

i waited until i got the short-shifter/upgrade kit/aluminum bushings/shift-boot clip before i installed everything

:sweet: I'm surprised that these SS'rs are lining up perfectly a couple of EK ones I've been involved in didnt line up with 2 different types of knobs.

Peace

dragin Nov 4, 2004 09:41 PM

my skunk2 knob took a lil work, but it wasnt bad since it has a nut under the knob so its deff. alignd.

this is next
finally figured out what im gonna do for taillights on the dime.. woohoo!!!!! never been done before something similar on a f150 but nothing even close otherwise

topnotch7gen Nov 4, 2004 10:58 PM

CUT YOUR SHIFTER! That's what Im gonna do here in a week or two. Won't hurt or mess anything up anyways.
