Thanks! Didn't take me as long to find one as I was expecting but I'm happy I branched out a bit. You'd never find a clean car this age for the money in Alberta.

I'm just trying to find a VAG engine wholesale place. There isn't nearly the inventory that there is for Honda engines, at least in North America. I've been checking junkyards but I haven't found anything yet. The swap would be a ways down the road but I'd at least be able to start rebuilding if I was able to get an engine now. Worst case scenario, I can just swap in a 1.8t and be happy with that. Those damn engines are everywhere here.

Re: New Teg

Yeah VR6’s can be a pain to find. Finding an engine a head of time and rebuilding it would be nice. The 1.8T is a great engine and would be a good choice especially if you plan on adding power. That VR6 sound is pretty heavenly tho!!

Boosted VR6!!!

Is there any way to re-title this thread or should I just start a new one?

I don't have the Integra anymore so the title is a bit misleading if I keep adding to this thread as-is

Let us know a specific title if the new one doesn't work.

I actually just got into Vancouver about about hour ago and my buddy is on the ferry right now with it.

I’ll post some new photos tonight!

Just a few pics I took on the 600-mile drive back highlighting its biggest flaws. Runs and drives well, desperately needs coilovers because it looks like a damn monster truck but right now I’m just super psyched with it.

Yeah that paint has seen better days but no rust is the important thing. Does the Trek addition have a higher suspension then a regular Jetta? Maybe it’s just a 90’s car thing.

Not that I’m aware of. This may be the only mk3 jetta I’ve ever seen that hasn’t been slammed, so that may be why it looks so high

Got some stuff done over the last few days. It came with a Magnaflow catback but the muffler was removed because the PO didn't think it was loud enough, so it does the typical VW popping and crackling (it still does it with the muffler, but it's a lot less obnoxious). I tried my hand at actually welding the muffler on and it actually worked out okay. It's not pretty but it's holding pretty well and it sounds a lot better. The volume has been greatly reduced but the overall sound is much throatier (it was just raspy before). Also wired in a resistor for the wheel that was installed before I bought it because the light was on.

Nice. I do like a little rasp but I wouldn't want it to be too loud and no muffler would be obnoxious after a while. A guy around me has a straight piped A4 with a crackle tune. It sounds cool and all but would get old really fast.

Yeah I agree. My neighour down the street had a straight-piped M5 and it wakes me up whenever he goes to work (3:30am). Drove me insane. He moved out but I don't want to be "that guy" lol

re: FRSam's Project Cars

Been a while since I've updated. Haven't done a bunch so I'll keep it brief. Basically I've gone full generic MK3 Jetta build.

Picked up a set of Thule Roof Racks for it about an hour ago. I'm not going to mount them yet because I'm probably going to repaint the roof but here's a picture of them that I found online because it's midnight and I don't feel like going to grab them from the trunk lol.

Last month or so has just been deep cleaning whenever I have the chance. Interior isn't cleaning up super well (one of the previous owners smoked and it stank of cigarettes when I removed the front and rear seats to clean the carpets, and there are some stains that I can't get rid of. On a side note, the front seats are only held in by the rails and one bolt, which causes them to rattle a ton when mounted, but it's so easy to remove and reinstall). The paint actually cleans up really well too. Hood still needs to be dealt with, and I'm probably going to need to replace the deck lid.

If you guys haven't heard about the weather around here recently, check it out online. It's been an absolute shitshow the past few days. Anyway, finally got the roof racks mounted today. Car's lookin' like a damn monster truck but I'm happy with how it's shaping up. Turns out I may have my own private MK3 parts dealer. He bought a few parts cars that he's keeping at his garage and he isn't going to be posting anything on Kijiji so he said he'd sell me any of the parts that I need. His pricing is ridiculously cheap. $300 coilovers (I wanna say Concept-One?), VR6 for $100 (though it does require a full overhaul, but still!). When I was talking to my buddy about it (he went to buy the racks when I was at work), I didn't realize it also came with the trans, harnesses, some of the AC/PS lines, so it's almost a full swap.

Quick update.

Got a guy coming to look at the Jetta today. He’s apparently got a ‘95 hatch in good shape and a motorcycle so it may be a trade I look at. He’s given me almost no information (took me about 5 messages back and forth to determine if it was actually a manual or not). He says the rust isn’t that bad (but he won’t send me photos lol). You guys think it’s even worth my time? I’m half considering telling him to just piss off.

Turns out it was my buddies screwing with me lol, continue with your day

So, quick update since there hasn't been anything concrete for about 2 months.

Sold the car today. Nothing wrong with it, I just got bored, you know? Didn't really feel like spending the money needed to get it where I wanted, so I figured it's time to take on something new. Was able to save some money so my budget has increased considerably. Need some inspiration so recommend anything and everything. I think I'm done with VW for the time being though.

May dip back into Honda; hopefully like an 8th gen Si or something similar but we'll see. Not a lot on the classifieds at the moment but I'll keep y'all posted

Bummer about the Jetta but if your not feeling it time to move on

What are you looking for in a project car?

Miatas are always fun.

Not sure this one’s gonna be a project, in all honesty. Definitely not to the capacity that the Jetta or the EG would’ve been. Just looking for something with a K-series or something similar, then I’ll do bolt-ons and just drive it without having to worry about anything.

I just couldn't justify the costs that were going into the Jetta. Insurance is about 30% more for that than it was for the Integra, which seems ridiculous to me. The fuel economy was also terrible considering it's a little 2L 4-cylinder making 110hp. It would've been great for a long-term project but that just doesn't work with what I have going on right now. Damn, I hate reality checks.

Found a car that I'm hoping to get either tomorrow or Monday depending on if the guy's actually willing to hold it for me. I already went and saw it and it looks good but I'm just withdrawing cash daily until I can meet the amount (my e-transfer limit is pathetic, it's like $500 lol). Can't believe I'm about to buy a GM :flush:

Found this yesterday and couldn't pass this up. These are just the sellers pics so I may post some better ones later. They tell you what you need to know anyway. This thing is f*cking mint. No hail damage or scratches at all. Fake Mugen grille doesn't suit it at all imo so that'll be dealt with at a later date. Maybe it will be a mini-project after all...

re: FRSam's Project Cars

Thanks man, I'm so happy I decided to save up a bit more. This thing is just soooooooooooooooooooooooo much better than any of my other cars. Got a small list of needs based of my driving so far:

-Needs summer wheels badly, the all-seasons on them are definitely more snow-oriented (maybe some 19's)
-Unsure of whether I want to black it out or stay classy with the chrome. Windows are already tinted to hell (35% on the front, at least 60% on the rear) so it'd look okay blacked out, I think

I don't really feel like compromising reliability so I probably won't touch the engine. The only reason I was able to afford it was due to the mileage (just over 140k miles, or 230k km) but it still runs like a top. It's not the highly sought after K24A2 (2nd gen came with K24Z3), but I had no intention of building it so I don't really care. Added fuel economy makes me happier, especially if I have to run premium

re: FRSam's Project Cars

Need some help because this issue is beyond my realm of knowledge.

Didn’t realize until a few days after buying it that the passenger side low beam bulb was blown. Replaced the bulb, did nothing. I checked the fuse and there wasn’t one. It’s supposed to be a 15A but there wasn’t another in that box so I just temporarily ran a 20A. It came on without the key in or headlights turned on and would occasionally trigger the DRL, causing it to flicker. This will only happen for about 10 seconds until the fuse blows. Would this mean the wires for the DRL and low beam is touching somewhere, causing it to short?

Quick update: Passenger side fuse box is scorched. Not sure how it only affects the low beam light but whatever. Now I just have to find a cheap replacement. I drive a VW with no issues and it's the f*cking Honda with the electrical issue. Go figure :shake:

GolNat Sep 2, 2020 08:42 AM

re: FRSam's Project Cars

You gonna try a junk yard for a replacement fuse box? Have you searched the Acura forums? It might be a TLX thing.

I think it would look good murdered out but the chrome is classy. Maybe plastidip the chrome black to see how you like it.
