Muffler question

Hello CivicForums, i am new and i will try to make a good impression here :) Anyway, i just got my first car! a 2006 civic si. I decided i'd like to put either put an new exhaust system on it or this muffler: http://store.skunk2.com/exhaust-tuni...ffler-238.html

My question is, will this muffler increase the sound and performance? how different would it be compared to a full exhaust system?

Thanks for any help in advance.

A muffler will virtually do nothing for performance, but you'll definitely have a different sound.

From cars I've seen, I've noticed that just welding a muffler onto stock piping makes it sound very raspy and cars with full large diameter piping are louder and deeper.

A catback exhaust system will let your engine breathe better and you'll probably only see another horsepower or two, but don't expect anything major.

The decision really matters on how loud you want it. Full systems are loud... trust me, I'm going deaf from my 2.5" catback, but it sounds awesome.

Ohh ok, thanks. So the muffler alone will significantly change the sound?

I had just a muffler alone on my 05 dx with the stock resonator. It made the exhaust tone deeper and slightly louder with no rasp at all, but I wouldn't say it significantly changed the sound. I wanted it to be noticeably louder so I bought something different pretty quick.

Just youtube the skunk 2 universal muffler and compare it to videos of a skunk 2 catback or whatever you're interested in, so you can decide which you think sounds better.
