blacking out headlights

Hey Guys,

I want to paint the housing black, and I've seen it done a lot, just wondering something. Does gloss or flat finish matter much, or have much of a difference? If anyone has examples of both on sunny/cloudy days, that's cool.

I suggest the flat black. Thats what I have. It matches best with all the other black ABS plastic pieces on the car.

depends how you want it to look. if you have mostly stock car, maybe flat is better. if you have lots of shiny black parts like aftermarket rims and grill, maybe gloss would be better.

The car is stock. I just started to wonder cuz when I brought my car in for service, I got the accord as a loaner, and the black plastic housing has a "flat black" appearance and it looked good...I just didn't know if painting the chrome piece flat black would look weird.

I'm just trying to work up the courage to do this. I don't want to mess up my headlights.

There's nothing to mess up. If you ruin the paint, sand it and paint again.
I have flat black on mine, I prefer that over the gloss. I can post pictures tonight if I visit this site from home.

Yeah, it's not too difficult as long as you follow the directions. The easiest mistake is getting fingerprints on the chrome and trying to wipe it off (the chrome often wipes off with the prints). Best to wear gloves of some sort so that doesn't happen, or you'll be kicking yourself later.
