Re: 1st Gen Civic - 1978 Honda Civic OG! Did that use the CVCC motor? |
Re: 1st Gen Civic - 1978 Honda Civic <50 hp?? what are the engine specs? i dont wanna wikipedia it up also i thought the 1st civic's side mirrors were on the hood.... crap i looked it up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Z600 keicar coupe designed and built by Honda. It was sold between the years of 1970 and 1974, before the introduction of the Civic and after production of the N600 was halted. Total production was 40,586 units. In Japan it was marketed as a keicar with an air cooled, 354 cc 2 cylinder engine with a 4 or 5 speed transmission driving the front wheels. Exported cars were given a 598 cc engine, which was rated at 36 hp (26 kW). The powerplant was almost humorously small, but it got excellent gas mileage, one car magazine recording 136 mpg (1.7 L/100 km) when they didn't exceed 30 mph (48 km/h)[1], which came at almost the perfect time with a gasoline shortage looming. Despite its small size and low powered engine, it had no problem maintaining freeway speeds and serving its purpose as a commuter. The only frequent complaint about the car was that it had a very harsh ride, which was largely due to its short wheelbase. The interior fit two adults comfortably, though the back seat was not nearly so. The car featured a black plastic hatchback that revealed a small shallow boot. Below the boot was a locker that was accessed via a hatch hidden behind the number plate. This locker contained the spare wheel and tools. Front suspension was coil sprung and independent the rear has leaf springs on a beam axle. The rear springing contributed to the poor handling. In the UK the Z600 was only available in orange with a black stripe up the side. -wikipedia- |
Re: 1st Gen Civic - 1978 Honda Civic There is an orange civic in the smithsonian, along with some history on it. Pretty cool, I got some pictures around here somewhere of it, but I'm not digging them out anytime soon. Looks like its in really good condition! |
Re: 1st Gen Civic - 1978 Honda Civic Haha, that's pimpin straight up. |
Re: 1st Gen Civic - 1978 Honda Civic 1 Attachment(s) Thats not a Honda Z600 as the explanation above states. Its a first gen Civic 1200. They came with a 1200 cc motor with about 52 hp. I swapped in a first gen Prelude/Accord motor 1600 (non CVCC) with dual carbs, shadbolt cam, header, digital ignition, At Engineering intake, etc. I have not had it dynoed but its sitting somewhere a little over 100 hp. Does not sound like much but the car only ways about 1700 pounds. My wife owns an Aucua EL (basically a Civic Si) with the VTEC D16y8 motor. My car will smoke hers and most 4 bangers minus some of the GT's/SiR's or turbo cars. The specs are here: http://www.roadsailing.com/specs.html PS - the mirrors were on the front fenders but only on the JDM cars |
