200-250 whp help...

I know that I do not want to go all out as I'm building my EM2. I see that 200-250 whp is good enough driving around the mountains of Colorado. I need to know what I can do to be able to build this much HP. I know that many suggest that I should not do an K20A3 swap because the VTEC is a wannabe VTEC but to stick to either an A or A2. Thanks.

its doesnt matter if the a3 is a wannabe vtec or not...turbo it and drop in better cams...and ur good to go.

or do an a2 with I/H/E, kpro and cams, and ur looking at around 220-230whp NA.

the choice is urs

Well, let me ask this; how much whp can I squeeze outta my 01 LX before I gotta worry about blowing something?

tnel2005 10-22-2006 10:06 AM

115hp.

well ya...but the thread topic was on a3 and a2....and actually the k20a is around 200whp...know one cares about crank hp

thatsmrgimp2u 10-22-2006 12:30 PM

You guys think the cost difference is worth it from the k20a to the k20a2?

andyman97 10-22-2006 12:37 PM

I made 247 with no problems on a stock d17a2 with a turbo and the aem.

Just pick up dezods turbo kit, the aem ems, tune it and you'll be way faster than you would with a k swap and it's more fun imo.

thatsmrgimp2u 10-22-2006 12:54 PM

You hit 240 w/o a build?

CASPER087 10-22-2006 01:19 PM

yea how would you hit that without a build i want to know this????

andyman97 10-22-2006 01:32 PM

Tuning with an aem ems, sfp manifold, 440's, no return line and a t3/t4e turbo on a completely stock ex motor with just arp headstuds. You guys have to understand, internals are not what make power. It's your setup. And your reliability is only as good as your tune and your management. I've been screaming that to people on this site for years, I think they're finally starting to listen.

thatsmrgimp2u 10-22-2006 01:45 PM

I understand they dont make power, more for rigity. I had no idea that you could makle that much power with no internal work though. Props. BTW i will be bugging the piss out of you when i get about 4g saved up =). Ill prolly wind up building the motor anyways, more for reliability than anything else. I know its not going to be easy, but i want something that i will RARELY have to fix.

v8eaterokv6 10-22-2006 01:52 PM

its gonna cost way more than four grand prolly atleast six if your gonna build internals

Not to mention if you get the right year engine, you can slap a sexy JacksonRacing supercharger on it. That's what I would be down for. More reliable than a turbo (so I hear) and there's no turbo lag due to the fact it isn't one!! Just an additional 50 horses everytime you mosh the gas.

he's talking about the k20a2, not the d17a2.

VietScouty 10-22-2006 03:18 PM

Thanks everyone, I think I'll stick to an A2 and if I cannot afford it, then a A3 would be fine although its still a wannabe VTEC. I can always put a A or A2 block in and a do a few internals in the future. I'm looking foward of keeping my car for about 5-10 years.

andyman97 10-22-2006 04:03 PM

I just saw you're at fort carson. I have alot of friends in that area. Check out www.hondaracingcrew.com. They can point you in the right direction. Also, check out revolutions tuning. Adam is a long time friend of mine, he'll do you right.

Biggie Deaf 10-23-2006 04:22 PM

Well, I don't know jack-diddly squat about engine work...ok, actually a little. But all of my major engine work will be done by a professional. What type of engine is in my car, or should I say, comes stock in most civics? I plan on adding a cold air, changing the manifold, and adding a turbo. I would do an exhaust system, but alot of people, from what I read, say that one really doesn't do sh*t.

thatsmrgimp2u 10-23-2006 04:40 PM

If your boosting it will.

andyman97 10-23-2006 06:01 PM

cold air intake and exhaust are pretty much a waste if you're trying to make power with a turbo

thatsmrgimp2u 10-23-2006 07:15 PM

I can agree on the intake.... but you cant tell me that you are making 260whp with 1 and 5" exhaust.
