Honda Civic Forum - DIY: Tire Table

Since dirtySAMURAI posted a wheel table, and I have made this thing months ago, Ill post up.

What you need:
2 used tires. Not new or it will not look right
Round glass, 2-4 inches larger in diameter than tires
Bolts, washers, nuts of almost any size
Wood
Drill, pliers, screwdriver, jigsaw or dremel

So, Where do you get tires like this, and how much?
I got these tires for $20 each at a nascar race. They were used in qualifying at Pocono Raceway that weekend.

Total build time: Less than 30 minutes

Step 1: Prepping the tires
This is seriously important. These things are going to be in a living space and they were abused on a road or a track. They are FILTHY. Vaccuum over the entire tire, picking up any loose dirt and rock you can.
They smell like the oil in the tire so washing and drying them should help. Take my advice and clean them, though.
DO NOT CLEAR COAT OVER THE TIRES TO KEEP IT FROM GETTING EVERYTHING DIRTY. The dirt is so far in the tires that if the vaccuum can't get it, keep it there.

Step 2: Secure the tires to eachother
Stack tires. Add 6 or 8 bolts/washers/nuts evenly spaced between the 2 tires. Drill pilot holes and squeeze sidewalls together to get them in easier. Tighten with pliers. Washers should be on the bottom (for when you pick it up)

Step 3: Make a base
Cut 2 semi-circular pieces of wood or something you can put against the floot. You do need a base for 2 reasons; 1, to keep the table from getting your floor so dirty it ruins it, and 2, to keep it raised up on carpet so it looks better.
Attach 2 pieces of wood, across from eachother, with screws. Counter sink holes so your screws dont scratch the floor!

Step 4: Finishing touches
Stand up, and center the glass on tires.

Step 5: Optional
Buy AutoArt brake coaster set for drinks. Discs are the coasters, caliper holds them.

Bottom Line: Its a nice addition to your place, especially since you are car obsessed. The only downside is the smell lasts a month or two before fully going away, and you DO have 2 big ass tires in your place.

Don't forget: The best part about this is that you never have to clean the glass. No matter how dirty the glass is, the tires will look dirtier and you honestly can get away with never cleaning it. The last time I cleaned the glass on my table was 3 months ago and I have moved since then so you can imagine how dirty it is.
