01-04? 04-05? differences?

ok i've got an 04 and the only real difference from the 01-03's i notice is the headlights. i see alotta parts listed for 01-04 and then some just 04-05 so i'm guessing there are some major differences. i thought the engines were the same. at first i thought maybe they were referring to the si models for some of the parts but, they weren't. you can even look in our fs board and see alittle of what i'm talkin about. can someone please fill me in.

Suzy Q 09-25-2006 02:06 PM

01-03 have same headlights.
04-05 have different headlights

Honda made a small "remodel" with the 04-05s. Nothing major though. :)

unr8ed06 09-25-2006 02:07 PM

other than that they're the same right? like you could use side skirts from earlier years and stuff huh?

Suzy Q 09-25-2006 02:11 PM

MOST things are the same, not everything.
Side skirts are the same.

02BLKCIVIC 09-25-2006 02:12 PM

I "heard" the tranny sincrows and some small setting with the ECU's were different.

there are still some VAFC2 questions about the 01-02 and 03-04 that in my opinion havent been answered.

but engine & body are the same except the headlights.

ricergribbs 09-25-2006 02:13 PM

differences are headlights, bumpers, hood. sideskirts should be the same.

and yeah, tranny is different, but i thought transmission was changed over in 03. havent heard anything about ecu.

kuNhoHan 09-25-2006 02:21 PM

the engine bay is a tad different ... i noticed spacing is a lot dif when it comes to intakes and such

ronaldo9 09-25-2006 02:26 PM

And most widely known but not said in this thread was the front suspension are different.

02BLKCIVIC 09-25-2006 02:28 PM

how so?^

jester444 09-25-2006 02:35 PM

Never heard that one... In what sense? I know it's still a MacPherson strut...

CenZ 09-25-2006 02:41 PM

the suspension is different cause its a 16mm bolt on the front where there is a 14mm bolt on the 01-03. the exterior is the same except for headlights which change the bumper, hood, and fenders. inside is diffferent too. there is a arm rest built on to the center console that opens up to storage, this was accually changed on the 03s but them moved them into the 04-05, also most people dont notice this but the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel is different. also the 01-03s had patterned seats where the 04-05 are solid.

simplicated1979 09-25-2006 03:22 PM

:_beer: thanks blk... :)

ronaldo9 09-25-2006 03:40 PM

Can someone also clarify the whole 55/50 mm size of the front shocks too? These are for the Koni yellow folks. I heard 50mm for 01-02 and 55mm 04-05. Supposedly the 03's were all mixed up between 50 and 55 but I cannot confirm this.

Da1lyDr1ver 09-25-2006 03:54 PM

the front swaybar is also different. they downgraded the swaybars to be smaller in diameter. i'm not sure about the rear tho.

ronaldo9 09-25-2006 04:01 PM

The rears I believe went from 12mm to 13mm big difference haha. The fronts I know went from 25.9 or something like that to 15.9. BTW I have an 03 civic with the 15.9mm bar up front and I just upgraded to EP3 17mm sway bar. I must say what everyone says is true. Very nice upgrade and car handles way better with a bit of oversteer with hard turns. But I think its easier to control. The factory sway bar looks like a toy compared to what I have now its a real joke. Sorry for the sidebar.

Your close dude
2001 ex has front 25.4mm sway bar and rear 12mm
2004 ex has front 15.9mm sway bar and rear 12mm

You can use a ep3 (17mm) but go for a rsx type s 21mm rear

lxcivic2k1 09-25-2006 04:18 PM

^^Nice...I have the larger front sway bar but no rear, lol. 01 lx didn't come with a rear sway :(

I learned some things today, lol. Thought main diff. was only body, didn't know they changed the suspension or tanny.

RHCP0801 09-25-2006 04:39 PM

04-05s are nicer :p

Ya I was gonna go for an rsx sway but I figured I'd have way too much oversteer being I have the smaller front sway compared to the 01-02 civics and I have just enough room so the bar doesn't hit my exhaust. 04-05's are nice but I love my 03.

susuking 09-25-2006 06:20 PM

i thought the steering rack was lowered in the 02+ model?

wont the 01-03 side skirts and rear bumper fit the 04-05's as well? i thought only the front bumper was diff?

CenZ 09-26-2006 11:51 AM

your right. a rear bumper replacement will fit, but a 01-03 rear lipkit might not fit right do to the little humps they put on the sides of the 04-05 rear bumper

ragingSPAM 09-26-2006 01:02 PM

01-03 single beam headlights with H4 high/low bulb 194/7443 parking bulbs (sedans are slightly different from coupe)

'02 civics also have the ball bearing style upper mount. the '01s were the oly ones that had the pillowball style upper mounts. again, i've had both.

twinbo 09-26-2006 01:48 PM

All 01 don't have a rear sway bar. Defcon Racing here in Toronto told me that to put one on you need an adapter that is a real pain in the ass. From now on I won't be buying the first year of any new model because they fix everything the following year.

accually the 02 center console is the same as the 01 except it has a door for the cupholders, the 03-05 have a completely different center console which consists of an armrest that opens up.
