To remove, or not to remove...that, yeah is my question (pinstripe)

First of all I would like to ask people with red 'vics to post if you don't have pinstriping... Then my question is, is it worth it to remove the pinstripes...as far as potentail paint destruction...work...looks. I like things...plain/simple and am thinking I want to do this but am not sure...lemme know what ya think...

well ive still got my pinstripes, and i like them. actually had them redone when my car went to the body shop after my last accident. If ur having the car repainted, it might be worth takin them off, but doin it urself seems like a pain in the ass

take some wd40 on a rag and get the stripe real wet with it..then peal...It will come off in sections and take a long time. When your done use a clay bar to get the extra sticky stuff off

Be sure to wax the part you got wd40 on because it takes off everything

If you have a hairdryer (this time of year, you only need this if you live in the arctic circle) and fingernails, then you have the required tools to remove the pinstripes. I did mine back in January, and with a hairdryer it took all of 2 minutes per side to remove them. In the summer, you honestly probably won't need it. After removing them, I'd wash the car and wax over where they were.

i would remove them but yea just use a hairdryer and your fingernail, should come off fairly easy

_unclejuice 08-24-2006 05:25 PM

i removed mine with just my fingers. no heatgun or hairdryer. the only problem i see with your car is its red. if the car is old enough and seen enough sun, the stripes will show. a buddy has a black s10 and took his decals off the tailgate and you can see it. i took my stripes off like 2 days after i got the car, but mine is white though.

the pinstripes are actually a bitch to remove....go to an automotive store...probably have to try a few....ask for a pinstriping remover wheel....its like an eraser wheels that burns away as it takes off the stripe...i believe most are clear coat safe too....imo its the only way to do this

02BLKCIVIC 08-24-2006 05:35 PM

take it off!!!

Hurts2bStock 08-24-2006 05:51 PM

They're a bitch if they're not heated up at all. Honestly, all you need is a hairdryer, If anything.

bOoStEd042dr 08-24-2006 05:59 PM

^^^dude....all the haridryer did when i took mine off was melt the pinstripe and leave adhesive...if you have a new car it may be easy but i did mine after a year and it was impossible without the pinstripe remover wheel

01HonderCivic 08-24-2006 06:01 PM

Mine's a 2001, So age is not the problem. If you hold it right up to the pinstripe, then yeah, you'll melt it. If you heat up about a 6 inch strip at a time from about 8 inches away and peel slowly, then you'll be fine

el ray 08-24-2006 06:10 PM

Take em off pin stripes dont belong in a vic

thefever 08-24-2006 08:10 PM

I used some goo gone on my pinstripes and heated them up pretty good. Fingernail works good too.

RedDragon333 08-24-2006 10:44 PM

I would remove em. I have a red 01 and i like the clean uninterupted lines of the body

redrocket600 08-25-2006 05:15 PM

So I guess removal it is, thanks for the advice!!

Mutha Fn FBM 85 08-25-2006 05:20 PM

dang i should take mine off now

redrocket600 08-25-2006 05:53 PM

Speaking of waxing, that's one of the reasons I was considering this, i'm getting a lotta wax build-up on the pinstripes...gets kina annoying trying to clean it out!

genexrocket 08-25-2006 06:24 PM

off..

redrocket600 08-25-2006 10:27 PM

WELP, I dun it. Not as subtle of a difference as I thought it would be...It doesn't look like the car is cut in half anymore. As far as paint difference, I think the only colors that'd have to worry are dark, aka black. My car's roughly 3 years old, waxed at least 3 times a year and I do not notice a difference in color. I also used wax to remove the sticker residue. So I guess I wanna thank you guys for the motivation!!
