general cost of a d17a2 swap

hello friends,

well i've been searching on goggle and ebay, and i have yet to find the mean price for a d17a2 swap.

i know, i know, i should should go for a k20a2, but i can't afford to do that right now since i have not complete college.

here's why i want a new engine. Firstly, i have a very modest amount of miles - 112,300 to be exact, high for an 01. I purchased the car used with 93k in September, PLUS my timing belt needs replacing, which translates into about $145 dollars - and many hours of manual labor.

So, i've considered getting a new d17a2 with fewer miles on it. I was reading around and i've seen members post that they've had a new engine plopped in for as low as $600. Is this reasonable? It seems awefully low. I was also checking out ebay and i saw an engine for $1,200. Which seems awefully high.

So, my question is - how much would it cost to buy the engine - and have it dropped into my car by my local mechanic.

thank you for your time

and keep rollin'

Why not just go with a K20a3?

TemjinX2 05-23-2006 01:15 AM

yeah i've seen them go for $600-700 on average. For the cost of the install i would just pay a little more and just do a k20a3 swap.

Because you're still looking at a minimum 4K, that's why. If he's hesitant to spend 1,200 on a D17...

Go to a junkyard, find a D17, and do it yourself. It's not that hard if you can gather up the right tools, get the shop manual, and have someone who's done it before to help you along. It'll be a great learning process for you.

change your timing belt and save for a k20a3 i've seen A3 complete swaps go for $1400 which includes everything 7thgeners need to drop a A3 in our Engine bay and includes ESA

Why swap??? Do you plan on turboing? If not, leave it alone and save for k-series. The d17 only has 113k on it... that's not a lot for a Honda.

TemjinX2 05-24-2006 12:00 AM

yeah if you look carefully enough, you can find a k20a3 swap for $1500. Install is what is going to rape you. Install can go from $800-2000.

Yeah, just change your timing belt, That engine will run forever.

Valdeezy 05-25-2006 10:49 AM

I approve change your belt and save for a better engine. You will enjoy it a whole lot more.
