i did it... vtec in a 01 civic !!!

a while ago i had a post asking about vtec in my civic and here is where i stand

i made a custom cold air, i put an ebay header and test pipe on i kept the stock mid section not by choice and welded a ractive fart can on the back ( i had it laying around from one of my older cars) to top it off i got the final piece of the project the apexi vafc 2 hooked up with vtec set at 4600 rpm and although i thought the car would be sluggish until vtec hit but its not it runs great i love it and not only does it make the noise we all want but it actually pulls... the best way i can describe it without a sound clip is the older vtec with a stock exhaust....

i have the 01 civic ex and i dont know where to go from here... i want to work the motor a little bit but i am not sure if i am going turbo or nitrous we will see any1 with a built motor if you dont mind listing your set up with part numbers and total hp id appreciate it thanks

what in the hell is the point of this post... ur car always had vtec, u didnt change anything except setting the vtec engage point later in the RPM powerband (stock is 4300)... most people move it down so it engages earlier so you have more powerband with the bigger cam lobes. :thistop:

Even then you don't want to mess around with the VTEC engagement point until you start running aftermarket cams. Stock VTEC engagement point is optimized for stock cams.

exactly. i really dont understand the purpose of this thread whatsoever.

Yeah, It's better to have the Hi and Lo point engage at the same time with the VAFC 2..I dyno'd my car awhile back and it makes the most gains and is smooth all the way up...It just feels like you are pulling because the "harshness" on the engagment point that your setting higher...When your in the menu for the Vtec Hi/Lo option, press the control button left while the RPM is highlighted so you see ****...

I don't understand this post at all how does "custom cold air, i put an ebay header and test pipe on i kept the stock mid section not by choice and welded a ractive fart can on the back" give you v-tec, sounds like a crappy exhaust system to me...
