Nitrous, Vafc2, Or Clutch/flywheel

I Have Basic Bolt Ons.
I/h/e.
And B&g True Coilovers.

I Want To Do Something For The Summer But My Budget Isn't Looking Too Nice Since I'm Going On A Cruise To The Caribbeans.

Soo I Need Help In Deciding.

1) Vafc 2 Tuned. ($150 An Hour At A Shop In Tacoma)

2) Nitrous. Wet Kit (zex Or Nitrous Express) 50 Shot And 75 Maybe For A Run At The Track.

Or

3) Clutch/flywheel.
( I Won't Be Able To Do The Install Myself. And Its $350 At All The Shops I Inquired At)

What Should I Do??

Save it and by sometihng better

white2K2EX 04-14-2006 02:14 AM

Of those, I'd go with #3.

BRCivic 04-14-2006 02:20 AM

Nitrous is damn fun... and in short bursts will make your car waaay faster than #1 or #3. food for thought

yeah it maybe faster, but its probably the single worse thing for anyone to use, specailly if they dont know how to properly maintain the engine, and creating methane *EXPLOSIVE* bubbles in thier oil, You can fry rings, throw rods, and all kinds of goodieness with it!

carmina_joi 04-14-2006 02:46 AM

Clutch And Flywheel Is Probably Gonna Cost About $850 After Install.
Gottt' Daymm.

if your looking for more power go with #2 then #3 and last #1

scansel912 04-14-2006 11:43 AM

You can guess what I'll say......

02BLKCIVIC 04-14-2006 11:51 AM

I have #1 & #3 on my car now!

Love my 4 puck and the 8lbs flywheel ROCKS! THe car seems to "wrap" out quicker. Only down side is when I launch... it tends to bog down because less momentum push the car forward.

VAFC2 is SICK IMO... to say the least. Vtec kicks in at 4100 RPMS and I have a power all the way to redline now. The car is soooooooooooo smooth all the way to redine!!

To sum it up. The car "sounds" way different. I love it!!! Vtec in 4th gear at 5600 RPMS is fun

For what its worth  #1 Then #3

O' I put down 118WHP & 113WTQ with these mods! :rtfm:

SloCol-Vtec 04-14-2006 11:55 AM

go with #3

05CoupeCivic 04-14-2006 12:09 PM

does the vafc2 benifit engines without vtec at all?

02BLKCIVIC 04-14-2006 12:12 PM

You can adjust Air/fuel Ratios

thats it

I wouldn't recomend it for LX non vtec.

05CoupeCivic 04-14-2006 12:13 PM

okay, it would make no difference if i did i/h/e then get vafc or still not worth the cash

02BLKCIVIC 04-14-2006 12:18 PM

Well lets crunch the #'s
VAFC2 ($200-$350) depending where you get it and how.
Tune (150 an hour) it only takes like a half an hour for an experenced shop to tune a VAFC on our cars (I watched)

Soooo $350-$500 for (what I have 118WHP &113WTQ)

Is it worth it???You tell me????

Edit: stock is like 90WHP mabe 110WHP (something like that)

05CoupeCivic 04-14-2006 12:21 PM

well what does a 7th put down baseline, has anyone ever dyno'd stock? if we put out less than 100 and a vafc puts down 118, maybe its worth it if you can get it cheaper

02BLKCIVIC 04-14-2006 12:24 PM

Edit:^^^

05CoupeCivic 04-14-2006 12:47 PM

"Since our 2000 Civic EX barely came off the dealer lot four months ago, there was no need for any major tune-up besides an oil and filter change. The SOHC VTEC engine checked in at 92.4 hp and 83.2 lb-ft of torque to the wheels."

so if this is true and all you have is vafc, then a 26 hp gain is worth the 200$ in my eyes, + tuning that is.

edit: this is also an ex with vtec, is your ex or lx/dx?

02BLKCIVIC 04-14-2006 12:51 PM

02 civic ex! (prifile)

Rennen 04-14-2006 01:00 PM

a stock 7th gen EX with a manual tranny should put down around 105-110 whp.

02BLKCIVIC 04-14-2006 01:02 PM

Ya I think thats pritty close^^^^^ (I have the 5 speed)

Hoosier282 04-14-2006 01:22 PM

I found my VAFC-2 on ebay for $150, just search around.

carmina_joi 04-14-2006 02:14 PM

Wow.
20+WHP.
SO FAR IM LEANING TOWARDS THE VAFC2.
NITROUS WILL STILL MAKE MY CAR A LOT QUICKER BUT I DONT THINK I WANT TO TAKE THE RISKS RIGHT NOW.

02BLKCIVIC 04-14-2006 02:16 PM

Lets not twist my words tooooo much guys!

Stock I belive is 110WHP, soooooooooo 118 would be closer to 8 HP  gain with I/H/E, VAFC2 (tuned), 4puck & 8lbs flywheel.

O' I have a stock cat too! So that could free up an extra 2HP and make it an even 10HP gain! :hgrin:

For what it's worth

djmota 04-14-2006 02:27 PM

if you plan on using n20 in the future then get the clutch.

blouisgod 04-14-2006 02:39 PM

get the clutch / flywheel. address the weak parts first, then work up, imo.

eye_see_you 04-14-2006 02:43 PM

get the clutch done then save for more work

02BLKCIVIC 04-14-2006 02:58 PM

I bought my clutch before my VAFC2!

Just because it was slippin' everyday!

joshb_ 04-14-2006 06:58 PM

Ok i have had 2 of the 3 on here....

I was tuned with full bolts ons with vtec head swap and made 120 whp...it was cool but extreamly slow and a waste of money.

I then went to nitrous for a whole summer and went threw countless bottles.....Its deff the best bang for the buck and its great. Many will tell you it screws up your motor but it only does that if your dumb with it. Keep your spark plugs up to date, 93 in the tank and your oil clean. Its awsome...I had a 75 shot and my best time was a 14.03.

So I would suggest nitrous out of all those and it will prolly make you the most happy. If your really smart youll save your money and get a turbo. Thats what I have no and its by far the most fun of the 3. Power all the time and its like a whole new car.

zachgeyer 04-14-2006 07:21 PM

save 4 turbo

cleancivic 05 04-15-2006 07:51 AM
