Weight Reduction Question (pics)

hey folks,

alright, so i've had my car for a while now, since september 16th to be exact, and i've put a meaty 16,000 miles on it since then. I try to check out 7thgen.com daily, so i've learned a ton since my initial log on to this site.

My question is, what can do to make my car faster?

before i get the usual answers i've considered the ups and downs of the following:

t3/t4 turbo - not too reliable for a D17a2 engine, the car is specifically tuned for gas mileage, plus i've read that once you start building it up, you can't stop.

K20a2 swap - i would LOVE to get this, but considering im moving to san francisco, i have a girlfriend, pay insurence, car payments, bills upon bills, 5 - 6k is a little out of my league... at least for now.

My current setup includes:

AEM CAI - Converted to SRI for the winter
DC 4-21 Headers
DC TCS Catback exhaust
Tein SS coils with rsx cambers

I would like to know what i can do to make my car hit 0-60 in 7-7.2 seconds, right now it's getting about 7.8 which is MUCH faster than stock, but still barely fast enough to be called, "quick"

now i have 2 10's in my car:

which i am highly considereing removing, A. Because i want my trunk back and B. Because it may shave a couple 10th's of a second of my 0-60, 1/4 etc.

What else could i do to make my car faster? Is it worth removing my subs? is the Infinity Basslink a worthy replacement?

No! Don't do that! Last I heard nobody had found something else to lighten on the other side of the car, or else it'll be pulling to one side BAD from that massive weight reduction from only one side

A set of lightweight 15" or 16" rims would prolly help

If you have a 5 speed you could get a lightweight flywheel. It makes a pretty big difference.

Lose the rims should be your first mod. Get a Crower N/A cam and you should be good.

Slow Gold 04-11-2006 04:40 PM

Stage one cam?

jrb121180 04-11-2006 04:43 PM

holy crap batman those cf doors are hot

diskreet 04-11-2006 05:01 PM

The NA cams are only stage 1 right? I don't think they have a 2 or 3 for NA yet, if ever. I might be wrong on stage 2 though

Thuener 04-11-2006 06:34 PM

thanks for the input thus far guys, yea i hear a stage 1 cam + flywheel is a decent upgrade in terms of acceleration, and it's not horribly expensive. Anyone out there than can support this theory?

mikemal 04-11-2006 11:33 PM

its pretty obvious but... speed holes. like in the simpsons.
