New to the Industry

Hey guys. Im looking at getting rid of my 95' Eagle Talon TSI and gettin a 7th Gen Civic. Prolly a 2003 Honda Civic EX 5-Speed. I just want to know if they are worth it? Cuz i got a really fast car right now, and i dont want to give it up for some granny engine. Right now i got about 240 HP with an Exhaust and Intake on my TSI. What do you think i should do that would allow me to keep up with the TSI if i were to race them? Cuz i know the Civic comes stock in EX with about 125 HP. I know HP isnt everything, but what would i have to do to keep up with it. Thanks. If possible, send ure replies to zidane76281@hotmail.com

be a good driver and add a turbo to the civic...but don't expect to beat too many dsm's

Stachmo 03-27-2006 09:10 PM

dont do it...the d17 is awful for anything other than good gas mileage.

you're better off getting an rsx-s or new civic si

RHCP0801 03-27-2006 09:11 PM

a turbo wont come close to 240 hp, you would have to do a k20 engine swap and turbo to get that much, NOS would also help. Someone on this site is doing the engine swap and turbo and he spent 40k on it already and hes still not done, so yea not a good car for power

Dark_Phalynx 03-27-2006 09:14 PM

Alright, are the Civic EX's pretty fast at all when they come stock?

MajinB 03-27-2006 09:14 PM

turbo can make 240 easy if you do it right. tuning matters

meh not really, they have 127hp stock and they do low 17s in the quarter mile, high 16s if your a good driver, I/H/E only add around 10 hp too....auto's average around 18 second quarter mile's

Dark_Phalynx 03-27-2006 09:19 PM

So what would you suggest?

xmeeksx 03-27-2006 09:20 PM

get something else if you're looking for performance speedwise

RHCP0801 03-27-2006 09:21 PM

if you want power, dont get this car, if you want great gas mileage than get it....unless you have tons of money to put into it for turbo and swap

stick to your DSM. or get another one. OR boost the civic. pick your path man. we can't pick it for you

Dark_Phalynx 03-27-2006 09:22 PM

Then, im just curious. Whats with all the hype i hear about Civics then, if they arent good performers?

gearbox 03-27-2006 09:23 PM

you'll be very disappointed downgrading to a sub 100whp car that hates to be modded. I've heard too many horror stories to count about engines blowing up. the best turbo guys here have given up for the most part because crap keeps breaking. 7thgen is not very reliable. heck i have less than 50k on mine and the trans is slipping. overall terrible car. if i had to do it over no way would i have this car.
you want a performance civic? find a used 2000 si and throw on a supercharger. you'll be up past 200whp in no time.

RHCP0801 03-27-2006 09:23 PM

never heard any hype like that

MajinB 03-27-2006 09:25 PM

um, modded they sure are. stock, NO. its the whole fast and the furious load of crap you probably heard. but with the right mods, a civic can handle like crazy:)

this guy is a honda hater. hes an exception. take all our advice with a grain of rice:shrug:

RHCP0801 03-27-2006 09:25 PM

hence iceberglism's 550hp civic

Dark_Phalynx 03-27-2006 09:26 PM

So im prolly lookin for at least 10k in uprgrades to come close?

RHCP0801 03-27-2006 09:28 PM

well it depends, aznboysrfr spent around that for his swap and he has like 212hp, transformed BG spent 40k for what like 250hp or something like that, the price really depends on the job that is being done...its hard to give an amount

pretty dissappointing to hear that coming from you mane. even though he's right, unless you're willing to spend g's on this car to make it fast, stick with your car or buy something else.

Dark_Phalynx 03-27-2006 09:29 PM

Gotcha thanks guys. I appreciate it. Last question, if i get one. Which exhaust brand would you guys prefer? I dont want it to sound Ricey.

RHCP0801 03-27-2006 09:31 PM

well i have the skunk 2 megapower and i heard its the loudest exhaust for the 7th gen, i have to say its extremely loud but not ricey at all, nice deep tone. It really depends what sound you want, if you want really loud, skunk 2 megapower, in the middle i guess, greddy evo 2, and if you want quiet go with the apexi WS2....none of those have ricey sounds....everyones choices are different also

MajinB 03-27-2006 09:32 PM

used turboes go for like 2k. springs cams retainers, 1k. whole bunch of other shit, 2k. 5k makes alot of hp

gearbox 03-27-2006 09:35 PM

rsr is pretty nice exhaust. but seriously take a stroll to the vehicle problems forum. its good to know what to expect if you get one. the main problem is the tranny. i like my car, just dont like how everything is breaking left and right. my alt went out too after 2 yrs. i bought a new car to get away from paying thousands on repairs... just make sure you do the research before jumping in.

Dark_Phalynx 03-27-2006 09:35 PM

k, RHC any opinions on Magnaflow Cat-back exhausts?

RHCP0801 03-27-2006 09:37 PM

i heard they sounded good, cheaper also....the DIY exhaust swap on this site they use a magnaflow http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=154958

MajinB 03-27-2006 09:39 PM

everyone forgets to say that RSR exhausts rust.

gearbox 03-27-2006 09:41 PM

^ i think this summer i'm gonna sand the whole thing down and put a few coats of black hi temp ceramic before it gets worse. that should prevent holes from forming.

Dark_Phalynx 03-27-2006 09:42 PM

Sweet. Thanks a lot guys.

no problem man, good luck with your choice's

import2nr 03-27-2006 09:47 PM

Welcome!! Hmmm, pics of your talon? please. Love those things.

also why the HELL would you go from an AWD turbo car to a fwd 100hp car?

About the turbo'd and tuned civics.... 240hp on a 7thgen? to the wheels? Any dyno sheets to prove this? I'm not saying No to this, but I am kinda doubting until I see some proof. I'm sure it is possible on a built motor but damn that's over double the stock hp.

MajinB 03-27-2006 09:49 PM

there are handfuls^^

RHCP0801 03-27-2006 09:49 PM

why are their so many honda haters. i cant speed even if i wanted to, so having 300hp would be a waste for my car. the cops are asshats around here and any modded car (that isnt modded from pepboys) gets followed like whoa. and speeding is pointless anyway. i got hit doing 111mph in a 55 zone. still waiting for court for that but i know its gunna be like a 300+ ticket, now imagine if i had more power. pretty much what im saying is dont do it for speed. not worth it in the end. make it look hot and just cruise and turn heads...

oi2325 03-28-2006 08:53 AM

If you want the power and dont want to spend alot of cash, JUST BUY A RSX, it comes with a K20 and its just the American built version of the Civic

tricky 03-28-2006 09:42 AM

this car is a great car for cruising and looks...if i had to do it over again, I would have bought an EF, EG or EK hatch instead...older civics are were the hype is from because they are so light and the suspension was different, engine swaps and parts galore are much more accesable and interchangable from older gens... for power, forget it, too expensive compared to all the other options available for used cars in the same price range...still a nice car though, just not for what your looking for IMHO without spending massive amounts of money
