my engine blew My engine blew a rod. need to get a new one. It sucks that it blew but at the same time i can get a better engine. i got an 2003 lx coupe. Before we all say GO GET A K20! lets check our pockets. Any ideas of a swap for a 03 civic other then a k20? My brother out in Cali. said to get a B18. Will that work for my ride? saw some negative feedback on an earler post. PLEASE SOME GET BACK TO ME. I FEEL NACKED WITHOUT MY RIDE. |
if you don't have money then just buy another D17. They only cost around 500-700 bucks for everythiing needed to swap it into your car. A B18 would be illegal if you were to put it in your car. You can only put the same year or newer motor into our cars. |
yuup, to be cost effective, swap in the D17 and do some NA work while yore at it. |
no b18 wont work, theres no mounts for it, if not k20 then k24... |
just keep saving up for k20 and repair the d17 thats what im doing....becuase i doubt REALLY REALLY doubt insurance will look kindly upon me buying a new 5k engine after my accident on sat.... so my opinion d17 |
You cant LEAGALY do a b-series anything. you would have to put an 03 motor or newer.. So thats eaither a K20A, K20A2, K20A3, K20z1 or K24A, k24A2 and so on and so forth.. |
wow whats a k20z1 never heard that one before.. |

cheapest and easiest is to just get another d17... if you try b-series there's a lot of custom work involved which = lots of $$$... and like others said, it'll be illegal |
get some pics of the blown engine |
well illegal i dont know i didnt know it was but i figured it was.... but uh im just saying my insurance wouldnt look kindly upon me using the 5 k which is suppost to be used for fixind the damage (form my accident) but anyone got the exact law on this illegalswaping business? |
lets see get a k20ze oil pan, a k24a2 bottom end a k20a2 head and k-pro your set for about 250~ hp all N/A with nothing special |
i would just get a D17A2 if u dont want to spend a lot of money |

Damn that sux i just had to swap a d17a2 like 2 weeks ago in mine cause the same thing happend and blew a hole in the block. Its an easy swap if your putting the same engine back in. It sux though that these things happen before we get the money to put the right full k series in. |
depends on how much you cna spend. If your lucky you might be able to pick up a k20a3 swap for like $900-1100. Probably another 1k in labor. $2k for something with a lot more power and potential. |
If you want to do a k20 swap talk to Speedfetish *or check um out on Houston-imports.com out of spring texas.. Ask for Brandon Tell him glen sent you. They just finished hooking my friend up with a k20A3 w/rev hard turbo kit running 10psi.. 314WHp. But you might be able to get a good quote on what it will really cost. |

They gave you the check to fix the car (provided they don't cut it to the body shop). How you use it isn't their problem, you'll be paying it back on premiums for the next few years anyways. |
best advice would be to fix the d17 and save up for a k20, bcuz that rebuilding kit is going to fail sooner or later so jus get that till you can save up for a good k20 swap |
what all do i need to do a D17a1 to a D17a2 swap |
the ecu and dash wiring.....thats all i can think of, i duno if anything else |
it would cost more money to put a b18 in your car then a k20 b/c you will have to do all custom work to fit the b18 in your car |
