Tragedy!! So i was cruising around yesterday down a residential street, I hit a stop sign, wait my turn and press on the gas. As I hit the middle of the intersection i hear a loud screech and my engine goes out. I pull over to the side of the road and park. After i recieve no response from the engine I checked all my spark plugs and whatever i could check within a half hour. I came to the conclusion I couldnt do anything. Luckily my car went out right in front of an auto shop. I gave the auto shop my keys and told them to check it out. The mechanic calls me this morning saying my engine is most likely seized! Now I'm no pro on engines or anything, but it sounds like i need a new engine. I have a 1998 Civic with a SOHC. What can I do? Sell the car "as is" Rebuild the engine Replace the engine with a same model engine Replace the engine with a same model engine and sell the car Replace the engine with a stronger engine |
get a b18. |
b18c5 or a b20 booooooooosted |
Yea...nows the time to get a nice swap in there, either a B18 or maybe an H22. |
sorry about your motor misfortune but to the other guys... what the hell is wrong with yall? k20 swap baby!!! more reliable in long term over any B or H series. |
forget about a k20 swap... b16 or b18!!!!!!!!! i wish i was in your shoes and had the option of a nice b-series motor...good luck! |
Man that sucks . whatever you decide good luck. |
swap the engine for a b series of your liking or if that scares you just pick up a good used d16 k swap is gonna be a lot of cash compared to a b swap. |
GSR motor/tranny would be nice... |
Buy a Hyundai. Wait... No, get a B18! But for the answer exactly as you wanted it...

B18C completely N/A!!!! |
Get a GSR (B18C1) block and put on a Type R head (B18C5) The cheaper way to go to get some pretty good power is just go with a B16A. They have very decent power but not alot of money. A B18C5 will run you around 4G B18C1(GSR) engine is pretty good =) Id vote if you just want some extra power but not burn a hole in your pocket get a B16A and throw a few mods on it. You will like it =) |
Next time, check your oil. |
^^ Lol |
see what you can get for the car and buy a newer car. |
spend $200 on a japanese SOHC replacement. or spend about $1200 on a B series swap. I would go LCRVtec (B20 vtec) with some boost. But then again, thats just me. |
perhaps i'm the only one thats sensible, but is the auto shop sure that the engine is seized up? what caused it, etc...? |
K24 Frankenstein. |
well whats your budget?? if your cheap--just replace the engine if you've got a little bit of money--get a b18 or b20 and do a mild build if you've got alot of cash--b20 and do this: http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...1/f0030a74.jpg this is from my other thread..hehe |
b series all the way. ls/vtec  |
ok, i know a b18 is from a integra, and a h22 is from a prelude, what is a b20 from? sorry i don't know much about these swaps, my friend is doing a b18 swap in his eg hatch, just wondering i would swap a motor, i wish i had a project car to mess with Nathan |
If you have the time to be without the car for a little while and the money to finance putting in a stronger engine then do that. It sounds like however that you aren't looking to have a fast car (IMO) so just replace the engine and decided whether or not you want to keep the car. |
a B20 is from an early model CRV. If you put a B16 head on it, it is known as an LCRvtec motor. They make tons of torque and are easy on the wallet (compared to ANY K20 swap) |
you can find a d16 from a civic or integra of around your same year for real cheap and putting it in isnt even hard especially if its a direct replacement of your stock engine. Run that used engine till it craps out and put in another one... you can find a used engine with mid to high mileage for under $800 easy |
Ya...like I said earlier, prolly a B18 would be the best bet cause you can find them fairly cheap (prolly not much more than a replacement d16), plus it'd be a lil stronger, a lil faster, and easier to find good parts for. K series swaps are costly, 4gs compared to maybe 1500. |
