Civic LX intake owners......

I have been wondering if my intake is sticking out to high from the tb. I looked at the hood close up to see if there was any scratch marks but there was non and when I close the hood I THINK I hear a slight tapping sound.

Here is a picture, I know its far away, its all I have for now, but can any of you guys tell if it IS too high or if its all in my head?

Thanks in advance.

its all in your head..all that i know of clear the hood..unless it was installed wrong

Matty Civics 01-15-2006 09:13 PM

That bitch is all the way in that throttle body, it wont go any further, overall easy install, only bitch was the PCV hose.

looks about normal, thats one of the big differences from the no name brands and the high quality brands, that tower over your tb prevent you from having any strut bars, except one, the DC sturt bar...

if you're worried, tape something on the tb like a toothpick with a bit of grease on the top. tape it an inch or so above the pipe and then close the hood to see if grease gets on the hood.

booba5185 01-15-2006 09:40 PM

or put tape on the top, then white out on the tape, close the hood, start the car, ev, then open the hood to see if there's any white out on the hood, the reason why i say rev is cuz the engine moves and it might hit then, but not at idle

diskreet 01-15-2006 09:49 PM

My SRI filter touches the hood in a spot... sh!tty AEM construction. The only part touching is the filter part so no noise and nothing is wrong, just stupid fit.
But no as you have it it looks good.

gearbox 01-15-2006 09:54 PM

well it won't move up or down, just front to back.

booba5185 01-15-2006 09:57 PM

i but the hood is sloped, mine did it before i lowered the cai, thats why i said it, and trust, u would know it sould like someone is slamming a brick into the roof of your car over and over...not sure y its the roof but it was for me.

White0nGold 01-15-2006 09:57 PM

what intake is that? well i have an 01, and yea it touches my hood, oh yea i have an LX too

gearbox 01-15-2006 10:01 PM

it looks like aem?

booba5185 01-15-2006 10:03 PM

aem doesn't slant towards the driver side like that one does, does it? looks like an ebay special to me....

gearbox 01-15-2006 10:10 PM

hmm yea the design is like aem with the filter curving up but maybe ebay is like that too.

Matty Civics 01-15-2006 10:28 PM

AEM SRI guys 120.00 shipped driverfx.com You can see the carb stickers if you look close.

booba5185 01-15-2006 10:29 PM

booba5185 01-15-2006 10:44 PM

looks fine to me, only thing i would recomend is what either me or gearbox said, just basically something that will leave a mark...have you tightened your throttle cable?

Matty Civics 01-15-2006 10:51 PM

Noo, I havent. I have been planning to, I had the DIY printed out and everything else, my craftsmans are ready but I couldnt find the time, I started a new job and since Im off from school all my days have been eaten up. I dont have enough light at night.

Sooner or later I will tho.

booba5185 01-15-2006 11:04 PM

it makes a big difference, and it's really easy too, i didn't even need the diy, loosen 2 nuts, tighten one, then put it back on the mount and tighten the other nut..done just remember not to make it too tight otherwise the car gets flooded, you can break your cable, it's just overall a bad thing.

best way to do it is have someone help you, take the cable off and your intake, push the assembly til the throttle is completely open (the plate is vertical), then have the other person put the pedal all the way down and tighten it that way so it wont over-stretch the cable

Matty Civics 01-15-2006 11:08 PM

That is a great way to do it actually, almost like an insurance. Thanks for the info, Ill be sure to get a friend.

I ordered my HKS from truehonda on friday and delivery is jan 17th, so when I put that on Ill do the cable.

Thanks again.

booba5185 01-15-2006 11:15 PM

anytime, that's why were here.

gearbox 01-15-2006 11:16 PM

hks intake? what does it look like

Matty Civics 01-15-2006 11:29 PM

I dunno if u were being sarcastic or not, but I meant HKS Hi-Power sorry i didnt specify, my mistake.

Cant wait to see how it sounds. Will post video on these boards, due to lack of exhaust clips.

DTTheEmperor 01-15-2006 11:56 PM

theres nothing wrong with your intake its at the right height.

Boilermaker1 01-15-2006 11:59 PM

Ummm I have a fantastic solution. If you think its hitting, first confirm it, then take a hack saw or tubing cutter and whack 1/4" off the end that goes into the throttle. just file off any burrs before you re-install it.

either that or do that new "jdm" mod where it looks like the hood isn't sitting right but it's just higher by the windshield..i forgot what its called

Matty Civics 01-16-2006 07:12 PM

Thanks for all the help guys.

Can anyone recommend a good polish so I could make that intake shine again, it got a lil grimey over time.

I tried soap and water but to no avail:(

Slow1pt7 02-13-2006 10:17 PM

My first intake on my LX was the AEM and it rubbed on my hood too. I just cut the piping down (like was just said) and then it was fine. But then I wasn't happy with how it was made and I bought the K&N Typhoon. Much better IMO and its not polished so I don't have to clean it every five seconds. By the way, Nevr-Dull works pretty good on that AEM tube.
