radar detector location

Ok, I just got a new radar detector and I don't like it sitting on the dash with the window mount because the spirally power cord lays right across my radio. I was wondering where some of you guys put yours other than on the dash or in the middle of the freakin windshield. I was thinking of putting it up by the rear view mirror, but I wasn't sure if it would still work ok up there being so close to the roof and all. It might not pick up signals as easily. Also, I kindof want it to be concealed so that it can't be seen easily. What do you think.

First off, I hope you got a quality detector!!! If not, you will have more of a headache than protection...I put mine above the mirror...I also used a hardwire kit so I don't have to use the power outlet....Just make sure your detector is really good on laser detection, because the lower the radar detector is placed on the windshield, the better laser detection you have...The higher the radar is, the better radar detection you have....Also, check out this site http://www.radardetector.net/index.p...e99cdc2fb4fdf8It has a lot of useful info...

hardwire the cord to the cig lighter this way the cord is out of the way

Well I got a Cobra XRS9400. I know it's not the best but cobra is a good brand from what I hear. I definitely want to hard wire it and I really don't want it on the dash so I guess i'll have to put up by the rear view mirror somehow.

I wonder if it would it affect it if I mounted it upside down above the rear view mirror. It's only picking up frequencies. Anyone know??

That's a good location, but what about your rear detection??? What if a cop comes up behind you...I highly suggest everyone reads up on the forums I posted above...Really helpful info about detectors and other things you can do to prevent from getting speeding tickets

I'm in the market for a new detector. What's a good model in the $300-400 range.I've been looking at the BEL RX65.Also does anyone know if any of those radar jammers actually work.

Just put it in your grill man. You don't have to worry about it then.

Yeah, I have the Bel RX65 and it is awesome!!!! Make sure you buy from an authorized dealer (Like Radar Roy), because there has been speculations that the people who sell them on Ebay, sell remanufactured detectors... The top three detectors that I would consider are the Bel RX65, Escort 8500 X50 or the Valetine 1...I wouldn't buy anything under those models what-so-ever!!! The range these detectors give are tops!! The cheaper detectors like cobra, whistler are just going to give tons of falses and not that good of range...Better to save up and spend a little more just to get better detection!

To answer your other question, it is illegal to jam police radar, but legal IN MOST STATES to jam laser...Laser isn't regulated by the FCC which makes it legal in most states right now...There is one manufac. that jams radar, but the unit is like $1600 and it will land you with very big fines if caught using it!!!! Never, ever buy one of those RMR detector/jammers you see in the back of mags or spam e-mails!!! They do not work at all!! As I said before, take a look at the link I supplied in my first post!!
Hope this helped some of you guys!

Thanks for the info.I'm gonna order the RX65

fieryhill 01-08-2006 01:21 AM

I also have the Bel RX65 and it is excellent, and so far has almost always been accurate. Saved me a few times as well.

radar jammers are illegal as it conflicts with FEDERAL laws. if you're close to airplanes and using a rader scrambler/jammer, you are well capable of scramming/jamming radar frequences to and/or from airplanes, and just imagined if that happened.

kirks04ex 01-08-2006 07:21 AM

i have the escort 8500 x50...it has prevented me from getting tickets many times

show0and2go 01-08-2006 10:26 AM

Anyone have a cordless radar detector and know how well that works?

Anything that is in front or behind the radar will be an obstruction..It needs to have a clear view from the front and the rear windows...Otherwise, there is no reason to even have one..The purpose is to get the best detection you can.. Some tint strips on winshield have even been known to cause a decrease in range...
