Aftermarket or Factory wheels

2 Attachment(s)
I have a 2002 Civic DX. Now I did a really stupid thing and put a set of alloy rims from a Miata (they were free). I got the center bore bored out to 56.1 mm like the Civic's but stupid me I used the lug nuts from my steel wheels and hubcaps (the acorn shaped ones). They didn't fit right and have caused the wheels to get worn around the lug holes.....stupid I know, anyway, I need new wheels. I have the choice of new aftermarket wheels and a set of used OEM civic alloy wheels (Both 15"). The cost is pretty much the same. Are the OEM ones any better since they fit perfectly and the aftermarket ones have a larger center bore? I know I can get hub rings (do I NEED them????). I kinda like the OEM look but I also like the fact the the others are new. Thanks for any advice. I know that the look of the wheel is important but either one looks good to me. I have attached pics of the two wheels

umm... this may be obvious, but are those the exact rims you have to chose from? cuz the aftermarket are 5 lug and OEM are 4 lug... anyways... i like the aftermarket.

ragingSPAM 01-05-2006 01:00 AM

i would go with oem

Mutha Fn FBM 85 01-05-2006 08:07 AM

aftermarket in 18's

guzman 01-05-2006 09:30 AM

If I do go with the aftermarket, do I need the hub rings?

If you can get them with the aftermarket wheels get them.

gearbox 01-05-2006 10:37 AM

i like oem but it all depends on what you think looks better

CiViCPrAnInG2k1 01-05-2006 10:41 AM

aftermarket definately. fvck the OEM.

guzman 01-05-2006 01:46 PM

lol..well it's two votes for each. I kinda prefer the OEM or stock look, but getting wheels from an autowrecker for the same price as brand new aftermarket seems like not such a great deal. Are stock wheels of better quality usually than aftermarket?

juzthewy 01-05-2006 02:01 PM

nah get oem they look soooo much better imo

y.0. KiLLa 01-05-2006 02:12 PM

no question bout it..oem..i am dyin to get my hands on the 02-03 si rims

wheamahm0n3yat 01-05-2006 02:18 PM

i would rather get the 99-00 si coupe rims than the 02-03 hatch ones

Well I'm getting the aftermarket ones...they are a bit cheaper ($50) overall, and the stock ones weren't in great shape, some dings in them. If they were the 99-00 si (or 03 EX which are the same) I would have got them. I really like them. So for $100/wheel (Canadian dollars), its not a bad deal. The only problem is with the stock ones, you know what they will look like on, the aftermarket ones are alot harder to judge....but the design is a nice simple 5 spoke.

mikenam 01-05-2006 03:45 PM

id go w/ oem

2k2_civic_ex_4d 01-05-2006 04:07 PM

Are there replica 99 Si rims that come in 17's or 18's?

guzman 01-05-2006 04:44 PM

lol, with all these votes for the stock rims, I think I made a mistake :hithead: I think that the 99 si rims are only in 15 inch. Ive never seen replicas in 16, 17, or 18 inch

PrecisnTec 01-05-2006 06:59 PM

here's a pic of mine with those oem wheels. I really like them alot. Purely you're decision though. If you ever going to sell the car, it may look better to the buyer or to the dealer to have oem wheels rather than aftermarket wheels.

^^ nice....looks soo hot...

Your car does look great, thanks for making me feel worse about my decision LOL......and if the wheels had been in better shape I would have bought them.....Oh well too late now (no returns of the wheels I bought). It isn't that easy for me to find stock Honda rims here locally (in Canada)....most of the models that were sold had steel wheels and hubcaps.

gearbox 01-05-2006 08:34 PM

here is mine :)

you can always get some stock rims later but it all depends on if you want a stock look or modded. cause the 5 spoke up there isn't too bad looking.

I think those ones are awesome looking gearbox....very clean and classy, the ten spoke ones are a close second. Finding the ones like you have is near impossible (In Canada, they were old offered on the 2003 "LX Sport").

gearbox 01-05-2006 09:35 PM

i was at the dealer and saw the 06 hfp rims in bronze or gunmetal and they didn't look that great (the ones on the si). the smaller size ones are nicer but they're silver.

D5cIvIc 01-05-2006 09:54 PM

aftermarket!

guzman 01-05-2006 10:01 PM

Gearbox, I agree that the regular si wheels look better, I have never been a fan of bronze or gunmetal. I actually really like the 06 LX/EX wheels, nice simple design (some might say plain). I actually chose the wheels I bought because they kinda reminded me of the 06 wheels (and to a lesser extent the 02-04 RSX wheels).

D5cIvIc....thanks for your vote...I feel a bit better about my decision

AzNmiKex215 01-05-2006 10:20 PM

aftermarket 18's !!!!!

DDragon7 01-06-2006 12:40 PM

Here's my Si wheels that came stock on a Si(cdn)/EX(us) in my sig.

LowSky 01-06-2006 01:15 PM
