What do you think this for a first bike which one looks better

i'm taking the motorcycle class this fri and i'm in the market for a bike. i was thinking of a used R6 or cbr 600rr but most of the people say start with a smaller bike. So i was think of a 06 Kawasaki Ninja 650R and its only $6,299. So what do you guys think about the Ninja for a first bike and the looks? or should i just get the balls and try to ride a bigger bike http://www.motorbox.com/static/upl/k...7060-002-f.jpg

Which one do think looks better??

^^ That is nice man! I didn't know Kawi made street bikes like that. Other good "starters" are Suzuki SV-650s, Yamaha YZF600r, and Ninja 500. But that one you posted is nice also. I started out on a 600, it wasn't bad at all. My buddy just bought an '03 SV 650s in copper for about $4K, I rode it and it was really nice, lot's of low end torque, and comfortable. The seating positions on sportbikes are so uncomfortable. Street bikes sit you up closer and higher.

Good luck

I think from all the starter sportbikes i think the 06 Ninja 650R is the best looking one and the cheapest one when buying it brand new But i like 2006 Yamaha YZF600R too

Ninja's are the Civics of the Motorcycle world. They're great starters if you can buy one new.

The red on black looks hot too.

deffinately no r6 for your first bike. i rode bikes my whole life, and raced motocross for 6 years and i ride an r6 adn sometimes it even gives me a lil scare. dont get something that light and that quick for you first.

soonercivic 11-13-2005 11:32 PM

Check the price on insurance. Ninja's almost always have higher insurance than many other sport bikes. That might affect your decision, it will probably be hard and REALLY expensive to find insurance on your first bike, especially if its a ninja.

dp_yz713 11-13-2005 11:47 PM

^^^pretty much the same wiht any sports bike

dre2600 11-14-2005 12:04 AM

-Don't- buy a new bike as your first bike. You will drop it at least once, its hard to avoid.

Contrary to popular belief, larger displacement can be a bit friendlier than lower displacement, assuming you're not an idiot and perpetually wheeleing, theres less shifting involved to keep larger blocks in their powerband, and less shifting when you're starting out is generally good. Speed-wise, a 600cc is almost as fast as a lot of liter bikes nowadays. Stay away from GSX-Rs and R6s, they're a bit more race ready than most. 600F4i (not RR) Hondas as well as the SV650 (doesn't have to have the sh*t revved out of it to move) are great.

Most sport bikes are I4s, they -need- the revs, V-twins and the like are a bit more friendly rev-wise. Weight penalties on larger displacement sport bikes generally aren't a big deal, but at times, ergos can be. Get a bike thats comfortable, you'll regret getting a track ready bike as your first because staying on it for too long will kill you posture-wise sometimes.

The Kawi you're looking at is Kawi's answer to the SV650, their attempt at a starter bike, so its pretty friendly I imagine (though I can't vouch for it). Try a used bike, a 99-01 F4i maybe? Those bikes are really forgiving vs. other sport bikes. I just picked up a '98 900RR a few weeks ago, loving it so far, just put it to sleep for the winter.

Well thats true to an extent. But insurance loss history nationwide with a ninja compared to other sport bikes is extremely high.

yourinmyw0rld 11-14-2005 12:40 AM

what do you think about 2006 Yamaha YZF600R http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photo...a-YZF600Rc.jpg

ramcosca 11-14-2005 01:18 AM

Ninja! The Ninja is beautiful man!

dre2600 11-14-2005 01:31 AM

I'd take the YZF over the Ninja any day of the week, Kawis always struck me as heavier, more poorly made (unsubstantiated?) bikes. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned an F4i or 599, this being a Honda forum. The 599 being a bit uglier but having the virtue of not having fairings to crack when you drop it.

Same w. the SV650s, but if you've ever seen one w. the fairings added, they're pretty hot, and still a 12sec 1/4mi. bike.

yourinmyw0rld 11-14-2005 11:29 AM

Damn i'm now leaning towards on the YZF but its little more for the money when brand new. Maybe i'll wait till spring when they have used 06's. i really like the 06's bodys.

true. i think its that way because they are the most popular and everybody says aw i want a ninja, then they have no idea how to ride and crash!! and the good riders have to pay. also i do agree with the yzf lookin better than the ninja, plus yamaha products are quality

yourinmyw0rld 11-14-2005 02:04 PM

Yea i think i'm gonna get the YZF the more i look at it the more i like it. I just need to find a used 06 one.

sweeteli99 11-14-2005 02:17 PM

get a cbr, those are nice, i'm going to get a cbr-750rr as my first bike... in the spring.

yourinmyw0rld 11-14-2005 02:52 PM

^ They don't have the CBR 750rr yet. They have it at japan and there thinking to bring it here in the states. That woulden't be a good bike to start on a 750cc bike :screwy: I might consider to start on a 600rr but i can't cause my girlfriend would be riding the bike also. we are taking the class together.

Excellent first bike:tup:

RobbyB 11-14-2005 03:37 PM

600cc is still fast, i suggest get a cbr600f4i its a bit more comfortable than the cbr600rr.

Canadian Si 11-14-2005 04:37 PM

I'm pretty happy !!

dre2600 11-14-2005 04:38 PM

600cc are almost as fast 0-60 and 1/4mi. as a lot of liter bikes, a couple of tenths difference here and there, just need to shift a bit more.

Pedro Lopes 11-14-2005 04:55 PM

I have a 2004 gsxr600 which was my first bike. First of all there is no thing as first bikes. You just have to be carefull and responsible. I also never dropped my bike. Any 600cc sportbike is fast. Going to sell the 600 next spring and get myself a new gsxr1000. Good luck with your choice. By the way don't get a ninja, they are so played out.

yourinmyw0rld 11-14-2005 05:26 PM

So from what everyone is saying Ninja sucks i'm going to try to find my self a YZF. Any sites you guys know where i could buy after market exhaust?
