would a silencer decrease hp??
 

ok, well i' just replaced an old exhaust of mine, i got a new one, a bomz tanabe style, i loved how it sounded, nice deep tone, i just installed a header yesterday, and now the muffler sounds high pitched ricer style, which i hate, now, if i put a silencer, would i lose hp? cuz i heard something about back pressure is good for u, or something like that?

never was in your situation..... my cousin was, he swore he lost top end!

usually a silencer increases backpressure, which would cause hp loss and more low end (torque). Having it open would be better for top end hp.

Back pressure is good for N/A cars, but too much back pressure is also detrimental. Do you still have a cat? If not, then you should use the silencer. If you don't like the sound, maybe you need to buy a different muffler and just have it welded on.

well, actually i have NO cat, its all straight piped,i think its 1" 1/4 pipe, would it be better to put a cat, or silencer?

You'll probably be better off with a resonator. Do you still have your stock one?

Try putting the silencer on and see how you like it before you go paying for any more parts. :tup:

and i can get a silencer like at autozone right? i just need to know the diameter or what?

I don't know if they make universal silencers. Usually the muffler/exhaust comes with one.

You could search ebay, too. I guess I have a silencer I could sell you. I don't plan on putting it on. Do you have pics of your muffler?

check ebay they have tons of sizes I bet. but yea if your car is close to stock and you just add exhaust, your low end power is gonna be worse. I have alot of mods on mine so I didn't notice and difference, just more hp up high.

i put my silencer on my exhaust and it just got rid of the deep tone and the ricey bumble bee sound sounded horrible. you will loose high end hp and your gas wilage will go way down. i had mine on when i went to new york and at 150 miles i was already ay half a tank, i took it off and all was good i threw the silencer in the trash when i got home.

so would i still lose low end

Are you sure you don't have a cat? Is your header a "race header?" If the sounds really bothers you, I think a resonator is the only thing that is going to help you out.

im positive i dont have a cat, i'll post a pic tomorrow of the bottom of my car and header, so u can see it yourself

The D17 starts out with 100hp, any "performance mod" you add just decreases power, lol. I'm jk. Dude it's a D17. When you bought the car you lost something... speed and power. So don't stress about it... unless you have a turbo or something major.. THEN you should worry, other then that just put that silencer in so it doesn't sound like its farting. lol.

you will loss 0.001 hp or 1m hp
