EPS Install

I had the electronic power steering (EPS) from a Civic Si installed in my car today. Here are a couple pix:

so what is it like????????

Never realy thought civic could have that

I knew it was possible, just heard eps robs the feel of driving. Doesnt make sense, cause I really dont know what it means either, I just read it off a hondatuning magazine. Tell us, do you like eps or not

It feels great! Pretty much like hydraulic p/s. Far better than being without any p/s. :hithead:

I think it is pretty much the same. The biggest benefit is you don't have the parasitic loss like with hydraulic p/s.

Well.... having driven the Si, I hated the EPS, but something is better than nothing..... why did you originally pull the HPS?
This may/may not be good to know for K swappers... it saves the hood wacking step for the pump.

So... what's all involved in doing this?

I've driven Josh's car and to me, EPS feels exactly like HPS ...

I couldn't use the HPS with my stock hood. There wasn't enough clearance, even if you cut the under brace like some members have. I don't know if Honda made some changes to the engine bay for the '04-05s, or if Hasport changed their motor mounts, but the p/s pulley sat so high that I would have had to cut a hole through the engine hood to make it fit. It wasn't as simply as tryin to free up an inch or so. From what I was told, the top of the pulley was a couple inches above the engine bay.

You need the following parts from an Si:

electric power steering rack
"control module"
all applicable wiring harnesses

From what I observed, you simply:

remove the hydraulic power steering rack
install the electric power steering rack
"splice-in" certain wires to the ECU
run a constant power feed

The install was done yesterday and I have only driven the car a couple of times. However, I can't notice any difference. If there is any, it is subtle.

Re: EPS Install

Hey guys,

I just bought a 2006 Honda Civic Si with flood damage.

And the power steering was not working on it. Brought it to a dealer and they had me replace Steering Rack, and Steering Wire Harness.

And guess what, after spending $2K on it the steering is still not working.

Any idea what else could be damaged by water to make the power steering not work? They said the EPS module is working fine. Do you think I should still go for it and replace EPS? Can I do it myself or it requires a re-programming once replaced with a new one?

Dealer said, the ECU is not giving any error codes even with the steering not working and EPS connected. Any suggestions on this greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Mr. K

Re: EPS Install

go back to the dealer and make them fix it. if you spent $2k the problem should be theirs to fix, not yours.
