Fiberglasssing trunk

How much fiberglass is good to get for a whole project in the trunk. Its going to cover most of the trunk with fiberglass, 2 subs on each side, amp in the center in a fiberglass wall that hides my tank and compressors. Anyone know how much fiberglass and materials I should get.

ajhdragon 08-06-2005 07:44 PM

damn sounds liek atleata few gallons of resin after your done. io would say somewhere around 2 just for the skeleton if it is almost your whole trunk. and probably 3/4 packet of the badding.

jeffsta17 08-07-2005 06:19 AM

ok so Im thinking, 3 gallons of resin, 2 gallons hardener? Im really brand new to this is there a site I could look at just to get a good background on fiberglass.

Overboost 08-07-2005 08:52 AM

3 gallos of resin and 2 gallons of hardner? You do know that for a cup of resin you'll be using about 8 drops right or whatever the directions on the hardner are but it's not much?

ajhdragon 08-07-2005 12:16 PM

yeah if you use a 3:2 ratio resin to hardner all you will have is a very hot clump of hard stuff. the hardner comes with the resin usually. I use bonda boat fiberglass resin. you can get it at home depot. It is a gallon of resin and 2 tubes of hardner. If you do it when it is hot outside you only need a few drops per cup.

ajhdragon 08-07-2005 12:16 PM

oh yeah remember to get alot of tape and 3m spray glue.

Overboost 08-07-2005 12:36 PM

a gallon of resin should run you about $35 with a tube of harder running $4 or less. If you've never worked with fiberglass do yourself a favor and practice by building like a mini box or something small so you'll get some practice on it b/c it'll be a b*tch to undo if you mess up in your trunk.

drew22mader 08-07-2005 12:53 PM

1sikEM2, i'm getting my trunk all done with 1 S12L7 and 2 Kicker amps and painted Rallye Red for around $750 - $800, and its not just some basic shape either, it will be a pretty elaborate design. $2000 for our trunk would mean some crazy ass design.

Just as people have said, practice practice practice, make sure you lay down Aluminum foil too in the trunk, i mean cover it and leave no holes cause if that fiberglass touches your carpet or anything have fun. Wear eye protection and a mask or that fiberglass will tear you up.

Overboost 08-07-2005 01:37 PM

get some disposable gloves, cups and wooden stirers too.

jeffsta17 08-07-2005 03:23 PM

When you get it at home depot will it have all the matting(sp?) you need?

ajhdragon 08-07-2005 04:04 PM

no the matting you have to buy seprate. i think its like $3/$4 a pack.

Finished the template. (Didn't chose material for design....just for the elasticity)

And then added the resin.
