Clearing healights
 

i know alot of you have cleared ur headlights im thinking of doing them on money so i want the easiest and quikest way to do it. I know theres a DIY but its too much to do hahaahah thanx everyone

How else you planning on doing it then? The DIY is the only way to do it, unless you want to just buy them.

Doing them on money? You mean for money, as in for someone else? Either way, if you are just clearing them and not blacking them out, you can get the bumper off, lights out, taken apart, and everything back together in 30 minutes easy. Its not difficult.

usually i bake the headlights...literally BAKING IT in the oven...preheat the oven until it hits 350 degrees...put in the headlight (make sure u took off any metal objects attached at the housing of the headlights). bake it for 10 minutes...da messy part, be sure to open it carefully and open it real quick while its still warm...BE SURE NOT TO TOUCH ANY OF THE SEALANT (black adhesive around the headlight). take off the stuff u want to take off...but if you want to black out, paint wat you need to paint but by then, the housing is cool, just put it back to the oven just enough for it to expand...put new sealant and close ur headlight...if done right...clearong the headlight will take you only 20 minutes max (including taking of the bumpers and headlights from ur car)...BUT BUT BUT its a big risk...i say practice first with your moms car or sometin :)

hahahahaah ya i ment monday! ya someone told me to bake em but i dont want them to break or burn em lol and what do i pry them open with lol its soo confising im jsut afriad ill mess em up lol

bake them in the oven, they won't melt. use a box cutter or a knife and run along the glue between the cover and the back then just pull them apart.

if you feel incompetent, then just don't even attempt, pay a shop to do it for you or buy a cleared set.

if you live in cali hit me up and I'll clear them for a small fee or just some food =)

i like amber. anyway yea its not too hard. You gotta start somewhere. Just take off the bumper and bake the lights. Its the easiest way to get them apart and back together.

I even said to do it on a hot day and you won't even need to bake. I had a hairdryer just in case but i didn't need it. This DIY isn't as hard as people make it, i was scared to do it too but you gotta start somewhere.

Just buy them on ebay for about 100 shipped.

This way, you don't have to go through the hassle of clearing out the headlights and you will have a set of oem ones if you ever need to go back to stock.

has anyone cleared 04-05 headlights yet? I'm really considering it maybe mid-week.

ya a few people have. I think there's a diy in the lighting forum sticky....

but they WILL melt. i have proof of it.

well if youre smart and only set the oven to 200F and don't leave em in all day, you'll be fine. I've cleared 3 sets of headlights in the oven and not one ever got close to melting.

If you are scared to use an oven, just use a hair dryer. May take longer but you can control the heat. PM me if you need some help. It's really not hard at all, just take your time.

^^really? The headlights are different for sedan?

no... there's one for blackouts, not clearouts.

On the 04+ if you take out the amber piece it will leave a hole in the light. They are not like the 01-03. So, Im not sure how that would work out...

hairdryer!!

hair drier for 01-03 coupe. oven for 01-05 sedan. oven for 04-05 coupe. the 01-03 coupe headlights are SO easy to take apart. the sedans a pain in the ass, thus the melting.

^^ I have an 04 coupe and did it with hairdryer. Worked fine.

^%^^^^ your not baking a cake here it isnt 350 for 15 mins. Low heat check them.

maybe you could take amber out, paint chrome, then put back?

preheat to 350F.
turn oven off.
place headlight in oven for 5 minutes.
check often for melting/disfiguring

the best way to do it is what ^^^^^ just said... thats the way i do it, only i leave it in there for 8 min and never had a prob and ive done it like 5 or 6 times between me and my friends. easy stuff.

350 is waaaay too hot. Around 200 works just fine if you leave it in for 10 mins or so. Just keep checking and pulling until they come apart. Then stick em back in again when you're ready to seal back up.

Its also a bad idea to put cold lights in a hot oven. You put em in and then let oven warm up. Am I the only one that knows basic oven theory?

i did mine 02 coupe. used a hair dryer. took me about 10-15 minutes per headlight. and i didnt heat them up when i sealed them. is that a bad thing? i just used ALOT of sealant lol
