mothers metal polish + my dirty engine bay = ready for car show

Finally finished polishing up for the show tomorrow. It took 3 days of work to get it nice and new looking. Also moved the alarm siren from in front of the header (bad circuit city) to the spot between battery and fuse box. Lemme know what you guys think. :)

looks sweet, now come clean mine! lol. What cleaners/sprays did you use? I know theyre Mother's, but which ones?

hustlelikem0fo 07-08-2005 08:17 PM

thats really clean, looks like an engine bay from a show room car.

gearbox 07-08-2005 08:45 PM

Thanks. I used mothers metal polish for the metals (which took forever and still didn't get everything), orange clean for the dirt on wires and stuff, and armorall on some of the plastics like wire cover and fuse box.

tony_buttons 07-08-2005 08:55 PM

Thats really a good job. I was wiping down my engine bay today wondering what to use on all the different parts. That looks great.

omg. how in the hell did you do that.................

i'll pay you to do that to my engine, gear!

Echelon04 07-08-2005 10:17 PM

What do you need to cover up before you spraying the engine? Did you just spray it down with simple green and spray off and then do the detailing or what? Besides the alternator, what else needs to be covered?

same here. i would like to know too

gearbox 07-08-2005 11:11 PM

i'm not a fan of spraying water in the engine bay. Everything was done with a few cotton t-shirts and alot of rubbing!

Vinnie 07-08-2005 11:22 PM

damn thats clean, guess its about time to clean mine

mexinaction 07-08-2005 11:29 PM

what mothers did you use? the one in red container or the billet mothers. If, you didnt use the billet mothers metal polish i suggest you try it. It works good, for $10 it works!

gearbox 07-09-2005 01:50 AM

the one with the red. hmm should've gotten the other. Oh well next time ;)

jgrow44 07-09-2005 03:10 AM

Damn man, that looks awesome. I've heard though that you should always have the siren pointing down to guard against water and debris. Maybe not though. Still an awesome job!!

gearbox 07-09-2005 08:16 AM

it looks pretty sealed, but I'll wait and see. If it gets ruined, a new one isn't that much more.

Next, time use billet mothers polish should be in a bronze/brown and black container its the best bang for the buck.. well, for that price i think it is.

the only things that really need to be covered are the opening of the intake, the tranny dipstick because they are flimsy on our cars. thats about it. Just dont directly hose shit down, mist over everything.

scansel912 07-09-2005 07:53 PM

This may be a dumb question, but with us with a stainless steel header, is there any way to make polish that off and take off some of the oxidation. Anyone with a cheap "stainless" header like mine knows what I'm talking about. Its not as shiny when new and now seems to have a glaze over it which is probably oxidation. Any way to polish that up again?

BTW I'm not talking about removing the goldish/blue/purple color from the heat, just the surface oxidation. Thanks

gearbox 07-09-2005 09:01 PM

you could try, i mean it IS metal after all :) I'm sure it would do something. Only thing with metal is...it will go back to the way it was before because of oxygen in the air.

xX03EXx 07-09-2005 09:21 PM

Looks damn clean. Honestly the best clean job i have ever seen.

civic01vtec 07-09-2005 09:23 PM

gearbox 07-09-2005 09:31 PM
