Installed HID!

2 Attachment(s)
Finally one of the PIAA bulbs is burnt out and it's time to get HID!

I ordered the Prolumen 6000k H4 HID from Impulse (that's the only one he has in stock for anything less than 6000k) and just installed tonight.

While I was taking the pictures, I feel like it's kind of bright?? maybe i have been driving with the stock for awhile...

Please let me know if they are too bright or not. are they aiming too high? I was just driving 5 mins ago and at the intersection, there's an old lady going to make a left turn and covering her eyes while she's turning, i wondered if my HID is too bright??

(if you think the light is too blue, it's probably because i don't know how to take the picture.. the light is actually purplish + whitish...)

ragingSPAM 04-08-2005 09:36 PM

its not that bright...4500k is brighter than that but its still brighter than anything u'll usually see on the road

SugaFree 04-08-2005 09:37 PM

They don't look high, but maybe you should lower 'em to make sure.

dirtySAMURAI 04-08-2005 10:05 PM

dude holy shit. you have massive glare.

es2k2 04-08-2005 10:28 PM

really? how do i fix it?
i thought i was seeing some glare too...

18inchpride 04-08-2005 10:36 PM

JESUS glare batman! did you take off the glare sheild on the bulb! what kit is that!

LiKEaFeRiO 04-08-2005 11:24 PM

I think it's too high.

Your cut off line should be about half way up the little tree on the side.
That's what I'd estimate it as.

es2k2 04-08-2005 11:38 PM

hm.... gotta take a look tomorrow morning...

are you on leveled ground? or does it go uphill?

if its leveled, drive your car up to the wall/garage put some marks where your headlights hit, then go straight back 25ft, and see if the beam goes above or below the marks.

If it goes above, then you need to aim the headlights down,

If it goes down, then you are fine

es2k2 04-09-2005 08:23 PM

i just tested it.. it goes down when I move away from the wall so i think it's fine

but it has a lot of glare.. how do i fix it? or there's no way to fix it since i'm using the oem housing?

Al Gore FTW 04-09-2005 08:58 PM

very nice, i have hardcore glare too, im usin the xtec 6000k kit from impulse  they probably arent too bright as you were saying, its just that you are probably used to halogens. i thought my HIDs were really super insane bright when i got them, but they are normal to me now.

dre2600 04-09-2005 09:07 PM

I imagine you're using projectors or no? That is a lot of glare, you better hurry up and fix it, lest some cop see you in his rearview and ticket you.

es2k2 04-09-2005 09:14 PM

no i'm using the oem stock housing...
i'm afraid to drive at night now
should i still lower it just for the safe side?

2k1civic01 04-10-2005 05:48 PM

goddamn that glare is horrible..lol

es2k2 04-10-2005 06:11 PM

ok.. i know there's a massive glare
is there a way to fix it then? i have the shield guard there already

projectors dont give glare...usually

dirtySAMURAI 04-10-2005 08:23 PM

no, not really. just drive around and hope that no one notices :p

acidbaby 04-10-2005 08:55 PM

lower that shite

gearbox 04-10-2005 09:01 PM

just lower it at least. You will still be able to see fine. My friend here has that kit and yes it has glare compared to mine, but it's not so bad that you have to look away. I've driven in front of him without being bothered. I think they're just too high on yours.

es2k2 04-10-2005 11:29 PM

alright.. i just found this thread of how to adjust the headlight properly...
http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=152358

so the prolumen kit is "known" to have more glare than the xtec?

TemjinX2 04-10-2005 11:37 PM

yeah only real way to reduce glare is to get projectors.

centurioncivic 04-10-2005 11:46 PM

haha, yeah they are pretty bright, i have the 5000k prolumen and they have alot of glare too. a cop flashed his brights at me but didnt pull me over.haha. i think you should be alright

gearbox 04-11-2005 12:13 AM

most aftermarket kits aren't made specifically for reflector headlights. That's why you get the glare.

es2k2 04-11-2005 12:42 PM

but the aftermarket projector is suck... unless i do a refrofit...

gearbox 04-11-2005 01:32 PM

well yea its even worse putting them in a projector. Unless it's retrofit. Did you try lowering it?

es2k2 04-11-2005 01:59 PM

yeah i kinda lower it without doing the proper way since i haven't found a good place to do it yet and i'm out of town in the whole week.. will try to adjust it next weekend
(i don't want to do it too publicly that the cops will ask me what the hell i'm doing with that bright headlight)

but it seems better after i lowered it now, i can see more clearly on the ground

ASIANPRIDE 04-11-2005 04:27 PM

Over all how was the install for the Prolumen kit in ur OEM set up (that's what I will have once my kit gets here). Ne hikups during install...and how and where did you mount ur ballasts and ignitors...?

JDMwhoreCivic 04-11-2005 04:46 PM

looks good. ur not going to fix the glare unless you get projectors so deal with it.

and i have driven behind cops plenty of times and nothing has happened but then again my car looks like it could have stock HID's cause its clean i guess? lol. fo SHO!

2k1civic01 04-11-2005 05:22 PM

I've had no problems with my HIDs..Nobody has never flashed me espcially them 18 wheelers...Far away my looks like any other car that came with HIDs stock...all you gottah do is lower them
