Well, the time has come. No more modding...opinions?

After my wheels went on a couple weeks ago, I realized (even though I've loved my honda's and always will) that im done and that it is pointless and a waste of money to mod a car that can barely break low 15's. I know that there's swap/turbo/sc options but thats big money right there and its just not worth it. Not trying to piss anyone off here, just voicing an opinion. The money will never come back to me and it actually decreases the value of the car. A buddy of mine just had his car smashed into on the highway the other day, totalling it with 12k that he had into it.....I mean, that can happen to anyone, but the money lost is a kick in the ballz.

What do u guys/girls think?....Have it ever croseed your mind to stop?...I never thought I would stop, but the time has come to move on....

aaahhhh.... Madurity, it always come sooner or later. Two weeks after this post, you will start using Viagra. :D

Just Kidding....
Well... if you feel good with your car as it is, you can stop now and continue enjoying it. I agree with you when you say the money will not come back to you, but it's like any other hobby. The money used to any hobby doesn't USUALLY come back. I do enjoy working in my car, trying this and that, it's like a toy!! But its not fun if you feel you are wasting your money. I have more plans with my car, and perhaps, when I finish with those plans I could say that I will Stop. Untill then, I'll keep saving and spending some more money on it, but right now, I feel every mod have been worthy!

But if you feel good with how is your car right now, enjoy!! But keep loging on to the forum!!

modding is a hobby, it means more to others, i guess what im trying to say is, do what makes you happy. The SI was a good choice btw.

well, its always been fun....i loved the countless installs the ive performed.....just recently ive realized that its a money pit. and its a good thing it happened nw so i didnt get too far into my Si

PoorCollegeBoy 04-04-2005 10:33 PM

I say stop reading the tuner mags! There will always be people willing to spend more money than you on their cars, and so you will never have the best looking, or the quickest, or the best handling, or the loudest audio system. Do the things to your car that make YOU happy. I got satellite radio, a nice looking interior, and I am almost done with my suspension so that my car can at least FEEL like a sports car, and then I am done. If you live up to other expectations you will never be happy with ANY car that you own.

Nameless 04-04-2005 10:47 PM

This is just my opinion but atleast when you put money into ur car u have something to show for it.. there are other people other there that spend money on things like drugs.. but thats just my opinion... modding my car is my anti drug :) its fun.. I dont mind spending the money but maybe thats cuz I'm still pretty young so I dont have many things going on in my lilfe yet.

Nodnero 04-04-2005 11:45 PM

Yeah, Ive been there before. But the problem for me was that it wasnt as fun to drive close to stock as it was modded. And there wasnt much of a difference in cashflow, since I had saved up and bought instead of impulse purchases, so might as well make the car look good.

ZapThyCat 04-05-2005 01:19 AM

I know how far to go with my car and modding. For me, it's more of just "personalizing" my car rather than actually trying to make it faster. No matter what there will always be someone faster than you, so why try? I just do the basics to my car, make it uniquely "me", and that's just fine for me. With a kid on the way and rent to pay, I just don't have enough $$ to dump into my car endlessly, so once I get to where I want to go (just past a body kit, and a tiny drop) then I'm cool to just keep my car like that :)

That's just me though :)

very true. if you are seriously looking towards performance that car is not gonna cut it. save up and get a better platform to start with. it's your money and do what you please with it. i know this d17 i have won't be a true performance car ever unless it has major MAJOR work done to it but i could care less. when i want fast i'll buy a better car. Whatever floats your boat.

pnoiracer 04-05-2005 01:42 AM

hmmm... just waiting for my lambo door to get installed and I am done modding too! saving up for a BMW or evo or maybe the Z! for next year.. I will pay off my credit card and save all the money i get from work since i don't pay no bills...

18rbetter 04-05-2005 07:40 AM

yep im with u. The only 'mod' my car will ever see again is changing the oil. giggle wiggle

_Viper_ 04-05-2005 07:46 AM

Im with you Scott all the way..The mods or so called mods I am doing are actually factory installed options..Like the 05 OEM lip and sides..Besides that she is going to be stock but clean and will hold a very good resale value..Other than that you never ever get your money back...Your Si is hot just the way it is :)

eye_see_you 04-05-2005 07:46 AM

well i've boosted now so going back to N/A will never be an option to me again, but as its been said modding is a hobby and the money never really comes back. If your happy with what you have then you stop and find a new hobby.

_Viper_ 04-05-2005 07:49 AM

Yeah I heard he is Getting into Porn with his GF's Boobie's lolll
Scott's new hobby...

nindoo 04-05-2005 08:00 AM

The EM2 has many advatanges over the EP3 and DC5. For one its the lightest in the bunch and it is the only one with the true 60/40 weight distribution.

My comment doesn't help much but I'm just trying to outline the positive.

Blahman2 04-05-2005 08:12 AM

You don't think a k20 in an Si can break 15's?

incubus7d 04-05-2005 08:16 AM

I just got my Si recently i like it but i feel the same way now, i just lowered it and was going to do wheels but i dunno im going to keep it for a couple years and get a 2004 or 2005 S2000 when the prices go down. But i sent so much on my last car and it got wrecked i feel the same way too

edicivic2k1 04-05-2005 08:32 AM

<begin 2 cents>

you have to know your own limits. you have to know your own objectives.

in my opinion, modding is a hobby, if youre spending too much, then cut back.

Modding is fun in moderation, you meet other people with similar interests, and you have fun. you have a cookout, meet, etc... [if youre not having fun, what is the point of it ? ]

your car is not an investment that will appreciate, but if you dont put any miles on it and keep it in a climate controlled building then maybe in a few years it might appreciate.

if you are modding to elevate your coolness, which is acceptable i think, then do it, or buy another car, like bmw or what ever, lexus, infinity, coddington rebuild, etc...

<end 2 cents>

thats completely true, it is a "waste of money" in a sense..... i always question myself as to why i dumped over 20 grand into a car that didnt even cost that! but... it IS a hobby, so for some reason i cant stop... even if i were to sell it and go buy another 50 thousand dollar car id do the same thing...

as far as long term tho, people who decide to part out and sell usually always end up upside down. thats the bad part about it.

scatman 04-05-2005 09:56 AM

true^^....but i have plans to still slightly and i do mean slightly mod my next car(i already know what it will be:giggle: ) just not dump excessive amounts like i have

varmin 04-05-2005 10:04 AM

the best mod i got for my civic is the bolt-on 2005 accord v6.

hehe.
