have a chance to trade my civic with a 99 si

a friend of mine offer me to trade my car with his 99 SI.
my car is a stock 2001 4dr, 5-spd with 47xxx milleage on it. his SI is a 99 FBP stock with 61xxx milleage. he wants me to add 1k cash for the trade.
do you guys think I should do the trade? do you think it's a good trade or not?
any opinions are welcomed

rickinthescv 03-30-2005 06:17 PM

I would do it, that is if you want a faster car with more potential. But beware that the theft rate for the Si's is high, so insurance is high.

civicPesek 03-30-2005 06:29 PM

the thing is one of my friend said that for a 99 SI he's asking too much. basically my car has the KBB valued at 8800, and if I do the trade + 1k, so I would pay roughly around 10k. He said that nowadays a 99 SI with 61xxx milles can go for as low as 9k

zachgeyer 03-30-2005 06:35 PM

yea they are get stoleen alot

aznboysrfr 03-30-2005 06:37 PM

I would do it

TheSmuggler 03-30-2005 06:39 PM

I would do that in a hearbeat... IF you want a faster car

civicPesek 03-30-2005 06:44 PM

but do you guys think I will overpay him?

TheSmuggler 03-30-2005 06:47 PM

No, not in my area, but it's differn't everywhere

Supermanrider 03-30-2005 06:51 PM

i would do it but see if you can talk him down on the cash he wants you to give him see if you could talk him down to 600 or 700 instead of 1000

ciVictoria 03-30-2005 06:52 PM

Take the SI like everyone says.. I don't think you will be over paying him you can do major work on that car.

SpeedFreak 03-30-2005 07:04 PM

In my area they go for at least 10k and besides that a b16 for a d17 is a no brainer.

ACURAwerx 03-30-2005 07:15 PM

it depends on what u want and ur situation.. if you can afford the 1k and want to make ur car fast, maybe u should trade for the SI... if 1k is a lot of money for you and u don't really care about "trying" to make your car fast, just keep yours. If the value of your car and his car are the same.. don't get ripped off with the extra G, the SI isn't that great of a car... I wouldn't trade for the car because the SI isn't what i want.. and i wouldn't be happy with it in the end, so it depends on what you want and your situation

xX03EXx 03-30-2005 07:36 PM

I would do the trade. The condition of your buddy's car and his driving habits should be the deciding factor.

double posted sorry!

TheSmuggler 03-30-2005 07:36 PM

Well the mere fact that that engine can be built effectivley and cheaper than alot of others. It respondes well to bolt ons if you want to stay that route, responds well to boost (551 who one by me lol) and it repspondes well to being ripped out and having a b18c5 put in LOL

blouisgod 03-30-2005 07:46 PM

dooooooooooooooooo it

Al Gore FTW 03-30-2005 07:57 PM

if its in good condition, you would be a fool to not do it. plain and simple. he probably wants your car to swap and make it ultimate sleeper, 4dr with k20 :hitit:

rutscivic 03-30-2005 08:22 PM

Do It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

scatman 03-30-2005 08:25 PM

do it, but get lo-jack too

sokka7 03-30-2005 08:46 PM

The only viable reason id have to give you in the favor of the trade is that the SI looks so ****ing hot and has such smooth lines, I love 6th gen civics proprerly hooked up...But man, 1 grand, shit save up some more and get yourself a type-s propped in your civic and you're set, and sell the current engine for 500-600 bux.

Titleist71 03-30-2005 09:39 PM

trade your car in for a STi like I did...the dealer gave me 9k.....hehe.

that was what I thought, I really like the shape of a 6th gen civics, but for 1k there're many things I can do to my car right now.
The car basically stock, he only has CAI and he doesn't race the car at all, he just drove it to school

The reflector in the headlights is about the only change between 99 and 00. Its not a seperate reflector piece on the 2000. As for the obd1 and 2 thing, all cars after 1996 are obd2 while any car after 92 but before 96 are obd1.
