Considering this car, what do you think? I'm looking at buying a cheap car to practice driving a manual transmission. I would like to purchase a nice manual car someday and hate to ruin it learning. What do you think of this corolla? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEBI%3AIT Anyone know what an average cost for title, registration, and plates is? Do you know if insurance companies let you buy just 1 or 2 months of insurance? The only car I've ever purchased on my own was my 04 civic which I bought new, the dealer handled all the registration stuff. What do you think of this car? Is it worth a bid of 4-$500? I would have to drive about 225 miles to get it. Thanks for you help. |
That car will require too much body work. |
I don't care what it looks like, its just to practice driving a manual transmission. |
It looks good! I'd go for it. I think you can pay for insurance in quarters... 3 months should be good. You can also tune it and sell it for a little more afterwards. |
to practice... dont spend more than 10 dollars |
do rent-a-car places like Enterprise have cars that are manual transmission? |
Save yourself the trouble of going through all the title, registration, insurance b/s and get a rental with a manual transmission. |

I bet they were always returned abused... I mean, even the high end super cars have speed limiters if you rent them... |
genuine piece of crap..... under 500 dollars.... very little chance of it being able to make a 250 mile trip..... what are you waiting for, i'd buy it its prolly got another 10000 miles in it....maybe |
ya its not that bad of a deal i guess for just trying to learn stick...most people that try to learn dont do that bad usally takes maybe a day or 2 if that to learn how to go and all that. |
buy that crap, learn how to use stick, and crash the trash. |
thats an awesome car for drifting or just as a simple project car. |
Before I got my vic, I learned stick with a rental. Only caused 25$ a day and it only took me a day to learn. |

im sure you can find a crappy 5-speed closer than 225 miles for really cheap. but your have to pay sales tax to get your plates, and if anything like missouri you will need to get your emissions teasting and saftey insperction done as well and their are alot of places that will sell you insurance at monthly rates. and rent-a-car places don't rent out low end rentals. the only rental places that rent manuals are like custom rental car places but those are a hella expensive. |
For the cost of a new clutch that you will kill learning you can buy that car easily and save on all other charges! if you are coordinated you will jump in and drive. you will stall a few times and pick up fast. if you arent like than then i cant tell you im just going off me. 8 years of gymnastics and it paid off by me learning the art of a manual by sitting in the car and just driving one night. then again its been like 2 years for me now so i probably would need a good 50 miles to get used to it again. |
The car has gone up a bit in price, looks like its over $500 and the reserve has not been met. Probably not that great of a deal. Its hard to find cheap cars locally, people don't really pay to list them anywhere. I guess I'll just end up learning on whatever future car I buy. Hopefully I'll catch on fast.... |
Don't buy the car. Its like a poor man's AE86 so it will be overvalued. You'll be paying more for it just for the fact that it's on every drifters list. There is a rental chain in my area called "Rent-A-Wreck" They rent out 2nd rate cars for $20 a day. They have a bunch of stick Ford Festivas for $15 a day. You should look for some cheap rental shop. |
buy it and drive it off a cliff....that is all its good for |
